That any comedy of any description at all is possible by anyone who's attended home games this season is, quite frankly, astounding.

Still, better that than banks of empty seats, everyone leaving on 75 minutes and the atmosphere of a moon landing.

Oh.

It’s a British thing.

Even on grandoldteam tonight there’s gallows humour.

Oh.

Honestly, that's not been my experience. Maybe I'm simply unnaturally cheerful, glad to be alive, pleased that for the first time in our EPL existence we are probably not in a relegation dog fight. Oh well. Perhaps I may raise my requirements next season.

'Probably' shouldn't be anywhere that sentence.

The fact it is means Shirley posters are allowed to ask 'why?' without fear of having that question turned into some kind of rabid fuelled vendetta.

I’m actually amazed that anyone thinks this is remotely a good idea. Potter is exactly the type of progressive, modern coach that we need to develop players through our academy and into the first team. UTA.

I think @chailey jem nailed it on his earlier thread. If we'd reversed our home and away form most people would be very happy with the season and we'd probably not be having the air sucked out of the ground as soon as we go behind.

Let's be clear, I asked last season for results to improve and our table position to be higher. Right now at this very moment they have. But bear in mind this is about where we were with CH in his last season at the same stage. So either we return to our over performing mean, win a few of the remaining games, knock out say, over 45 points and job's a good 'un. But, what we look like at the moment, is that the next Bournemouth and Cardiff are next up. And, let's face it, Spurs and Norwich at home is a pretty likely way to achieve that.

But please don't pretend you've not noticed the empty seats all season, the early leavers in the last three home games and the rapidly deteriorating atmosphere. It's disingenuous, unless you're blind and deaf, and I know you're not.

Sorry, you actually believe we’re in a relegation battle?

Ask Hazza he was the one who felt the need to add 'probably' to the sentence 'not in a relegation battle', not me.

No, fair enough. There have been a few seats with the gentle breeze occupying the space ideally taken by bums.

As far as empty seats is concerned, that's the least of my concerns, though, as a member of the militant wing of the LEFNSR militia (leaving early for no special reason). As long as I'm there, when I want to be there...

And in any case, which year was the term 'pretendance' coined? ??? Empty seats is far from a new phenomenon, innit. Even I couldn't be arsed to drive all that way a few weeks ago, having done all the covid prep and plomped myself into the car, when it was on the tellybox. Mmmmm....tellyfootball . . . when it's raining and a long way to drive....:lolol::thumbsup:

Sorry I misread your comment. I thought you were implying that we were in a relegation battle, when in actual fact you were suggesting that we most certainly are not.

Ah yes, happy-go-lucky 'Harry' who often boasts of putting 50 NSC users on ignore and, just the other day, effortlessly listed dozens of popular music acts he hates/doesn't understand...

:lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

Yep. That's me

Even on grandoldteam tonight there’s gallows humour.

There’s stories during the Korean War of British units not being assisted by their American colleagues because the British used gallows humour and sarcasm in tricky spots which the Americans totally failed to grasp.

Perhaps next time you'll look at the poll results before deciding who voted for what.

Oh and if you still can't be bothered, a little tip for you - I'm very very unlikely to be on that list then, either.

Bloom knows Potter has potential. We are in the potential game, same for managers just as it is with players. Pretty sure Bloom thinks that in ten years Potter will unquestionably be one the most respected managers in the game. So no way is he sacking him. It’s a long game here- and I’m pretty sure that Bloom is confident we will better off in 5 years if we keep Potter.
What that means though, is that he isn’t the finished article. He’s learning too. Some things he does are bamboozingly, but it’s no different from some of the howlers Sanchez makes. They’re both learning their professions and the potential is undoubtedly there.

I was going to mention WW1 trenches humour, but thought it a bit dramatic compared to just a football club :)

Even Wipers for Ypres, and The Wipers Times. Lives in mortal danger, yet still witty
