Ah the good old Daily Mail! Knew it wouldn't be long until someone mentioned it.
God I've missed this place!!!
And actually yes they do make me ashamed to be English sometimes. Especially when some councils, employers etc ban you from flying St Georges Flags on cars and houses for fear of upsetting the minorities, and when Christamas is renamed Winterville!! WTF

Ah, Winterville/ban Christmas - oh dear, another urban myth, seamlessly gobbled up by the truly gullible.

I'll tell you what, you go and sit in a corner somewhere and spend your time grizzling over a tiny, tiny minority of people who may or may not exist that don't actually matter to you, and that may want St George's Day banned, while I go and celebrate St George, Englishness and patriotism without any hint of guilt, fear of offence or embarrassment.

See ya.

Clearly in your little ivory tower where you sit pontificating on everyones views you don't listen to the radio and hear these things mentioned do you?
Don't celebrate it too much though because you'll have the do gooder police onto you

I don't give a toss for anyone saying I can't celebrate St George's Day. Similarly, I don't waste any time thinking about anyone gullible enough to believe in these urban myths either.

'Do-gooder police'? You worry too much.

the irish have st partrick`s day as a national holiday
so why isnt st george`s day a national holiday?

Wrong I am afraid.

The Irish have St Patrick's as a RELIGIOUS holiday, which is marketed over here as a national holiday.

I have no objection to England or Britain having a national day, but why should it be based on a religious feast - it's probably the least religious observant country in Europe these days.
