For a long time I have been salivating over the prospect of one day owning a sexy new MacBook pro. The contours, the aluminium shell, the powerful OS, the kudos that comes with owning a Mac...

However they don't come cheap and I'd just assumed I'd have to get my hands on a big windfall in order to live my dream anytime soon.

This week however I have just realised that both my car insurance and tax are up for renewal. If I do not pay them my car gets towed away, but in truth I rarely use my wheels other than the odd Asda run or the occasional trip cross country to visit friends and family.

It is a nice car and I like having it there as an option but I can go weeks without using it whereas I know I would be geeking it up on my Macbook Pro every day, were I the proud owner of one.

So for £400 I can tax and insure my car and enjoy another year of motoring, or I can save that money, and make a further £800-£1000 by flogging it to somebody who may get more use out of it.

What would you do? NSC it's over to you

But would I be forfeiting absolute freedom by ditching the motor?

I don't like Mac's but if you rarely use the car and it's what you want then do it. You can hire a Corsa from Enterprise for £30 a day with unlimited mileage if you need a car for something.

Having said that I love cars and am going to pick up my shiny new one today but each to their own and if you don't need it, why waste the money
