Gross first half, Mac Allister second half

it seems like nothing much happens in the first half of most games since the restart

I don't like him in the same lineup as Mooy. Too similar and both lack pace. That said, I said that before the Arsenal game and look what happened.

The stat about how much closing down he does that was in The Athletic (cross posted on his own thread) was interesting though, in line with the comment by NooBHA

I will happily accept what Potter throws at us this time. He was spot on against Leicester and proved correct in the end against The Arse.

Could see him starting but coming off at half time/55 mins.

But as I responded to that post, most of the goals in most of those wins came when he had been taken off. It’s a misleading stat.

Equally his involvement in the first goal for most of those wins set them up. The first goal is the most important in the game.

Watford away - his low cross turned in for the own goal.
Spurs at home - His in-swinging cross is what led to Maupays opening goal
Everton - he scored the opening goal
Arsenal away - his corner set up opening goal.

So maybe not such a misleading stat.

Man Utd beat us with pace at OT earlier in the season and they are full of fast players across the pitch, we need to match that and sadly Gross doesn't fit the bill.
I would also play Lamptey and Bernardo and drop Burn to the bench.

Yes it is, I admire your loyalty to him but you’re clutching at straws.

Re: Everton game, I think you’ll find the 2nd and 3rd goals in a 3.2 victory coming from 2.1 down are much more important than the 1st goal. Make no mistake, until he went off and Trossard came on and turned the game we were destined to lose that match.

Re: Spurs game - you’re really stretching it trying to give him credit for Loris’ calamity.

Yes he was involved in the Watford and Arsenal goals, credit to him.

But we got the 2 goals at home to Arsenal when he’d gone off the pitch, the 2 goals against Norwich when he’d gone off the pitch and the 2 goals against Bournemouth when he didn’t play at all. So add those to the 2 against Everton when his substitution again changed the game and we’ve been more effective in much fewer minutes when he’s not there even though he has started most of our matches.

I loved him in his first season with us but he really doesn’t deserve a starting place anymore. Set pieces and hard work aside, he has been really poor from open play this season and held us back in many games. A team like us need more than that in one of our most creative positions.

Nope, used to be right up there as one of our best players but something seems to have happened this season and not changed from the very limited evidence since restart.

Burn is the first name on the team sheet

It doesn't help that we made a mistake and played high up the pitch against them, leaving acres of space behind (their pace is a bonus to them) but we could have sat a bit deeper.

As i've said before, I think we should play Gross OR Mooy, but ideally not both as they are both great, but also too similar. Neither of them have hit the heights we know they are capable of recently, so not sure which would get the nod but both can change the game on their day.

Has done well, but remains mystifying for me, still prefer Bernardo.

Agree Think Bernardo our best left back..Can only assume plays Burn so he can head corners away and as an outlet for Ryans long kicks

I like Bernardo but gets beaten on the outside far too often. I’m assuming Burn in just because he can head it is a bit tongue in cheek because there is clearly a lot more to his game, and hardly gives any credit to Potter as a progressive tactical manager if he only picks a left back because he’s good in the air.
