The only shops I frequented before lockdown were supermarkets, newsagents, DIY stores and garden centres. All of my other supplies were bought online. It won’t be any different on Monday.

The only way we can get the economy ticking over again is to open up in a sensible way. It's going to need a lot of common sense, patience, ingenuity and personal responsibility.

Distancing, mask wearing, regular cleaning with sanitizers, less touching of goods, protective screens and extended opening hours of shops to get the previous volume of sales spread over a longer day. People really need to self isolate if they have any doubts about their health, rather than wind around M&S for 2 hours spreading it.

It is doable but will involve sacrifices in profit margins for stores, stagnant wages and less favourable working hours for staff, and the big elephant in the room, will shareholders accept lower dividends on a long term basis?

Excluding food and booze I tend to only shop online anyway so no, I won't be going into town. Open the restuarants - now that's a different matter entirely !

Indeed.

Yesterday's figures were almost identical to the previous Friday ( 1541 new vs 1557 new, 202 deceased vs 204 ).

Let's see where we are this time next week.

If only someone could invent an online book seller. Oh.

There is never a need to buy a new book given thousands of good ones are in charity shops

Totally agree. Nothing finer then perusing the book section in the BHF shop in London Road, have picked up loads of genuine gems in there for £1.50. Hugely random however. For a book that something somewhere along the way has really triggered you into wanting to read, Amazon is your friend. Well, it's MY friend anyways

Just like whenever the pubs reopen, it'll be absolute dickhead central in the shops from Monday - 'Maisie! ****ing come back here! We got to go to Sports Direct, innit.' etc

Not for me Clive.

The US has seen the start of a bit of a spike, after a few days of new case numbers falling below 20k a day they have bounced back up to 27k cases yesterday.. Thinking this corresponds to the start of the George Floyd protests.

No they weren't. The figures for yesterday (12th June) were 1,541 cases and 202 new deaths, but the figures for last Friday (5th June) were 1,650 new cases and 357 new deaths. So a slight drop in cases (approx 6%) and approx 43% drop in deaths. The figure you've quoted for last Friday are actually the numbers announced on Saturday 6th June.

Wife and I were only talking about the Metro yesterday, how on earth will they manage that place, it is huge and gets rammed at times. One way systems and social distancing will be a challenge!

Life’s a challenge as well you know....its up to them to sort it out...lets just wait and see what ingenuity they have come up with first ..you never know it might go ok..you’d be more at risk in a car at the mo judging by the way i have seen some people driving over the last few weeks
