Thing is, there was an armed, uniformed police officer right outside the club who initially exchanged fire with the assailant before he retreated inside the venue, leading to a protracted 3-hour standoff / hostage situation. Back-up units were a couple of minutes away. So no, the NRA will be spouting bullocks as per.

Not according to the FBI, he was on their radar previously.
They were concerned he may have radical Islamist leanings. So everything to do with religion or his warped take on it anyway.

The gunman was a Muslim who rang the police and pledged allegiance to Islamic State. There are eleven Islamic countries - combined population 100 million - where homosexuality is punishable by death. A Florida imam has said that gays must be killed. Not too hard to see what's happened here.
