I had a Lexus that needed rear shocks at 65k. My old Alfa made it to 88k and is 10 years older.

There is so much guff talked about German and Japanese good, Italian and French bad. It’s just not true. Most motoring magazines are funded big time by advertising from the VW Group and BMW and guess what, they get the best reviews

All cars have foibles and faults.

OP, I think it’s a reasonable offer but unless you want a full Peugeot history I’d get a quote from a specialist as suggested by others. Nothing lost, possibly a smaller bill.

£250 from a stealer for genuine replacements isn't a bad price at all, if I'm lucky I'll be able to get a pair of aftermarket replacements for mine for about half of that delivered and then I've got to fit them myself.

It could have been a particularly nasty pothole that did the damage which is the way things are these days.

For reference I'd normally expect 10 years/120k out of the suspension but that could be shortened by towing or heavy loads in the car, I'm just about to do a refresh on the whole of my car's suspension as its hit 122k.

Had my car MOT’d this week…..they were saying how many more cars are showing suspension damage now due to the number of potholes on the roads.

Here's the thing. I have a 66 plate Peugeot with 42,000 miles on the clock. Out of the blue, it started knocking somewhere around the wheel arch on the drivers side. Diagnosed as an issue with the shock absorber which needed replacing and I should replace the other one at the same time. £505! I've never had to replace a shock absorber in 50 years of motoring and the age of the car and the mileage makes it seem premature to me. I wrote to the Chief Executive of Peugeot to express my point of view and they offered me 50% off, so about £250 for two new shock absorbers from a main dealer . Should I bite their arm off and accept their offer or push for more?

I had similar with my old Peugeot 205, where all I had to replace was the johnson rods and top up with blinker fluid.

From someone in the motoring industry, yes all brands have good and bad, just the French and Italians more than most. Italians think form over function, French just make poor quality vehicles.
