What's that about?

Funnily enough, it was when R&D were being bankrolled by Dr Martins, and climbing the leagues. Cheltenham fans refered to them as "Ru$hden Anne Diamond$" and were critical at their "buying" of the league title, and promotion into the football league. Sounds familiar in some ways to what is happening to football all over.

As for the majority of non United fans wishing them well, no, I agree, that is unlikely, but there are a fair few who wouldn't have a problem, and of course there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, who are supporters of United, whether they ever go to OT or not, they buy the shirts, subscribe to the satellite station and watch them on the box.

Even me, if Chelsea were the only Prem side left in it, I would get behind them, a little reluctantly, but nevertheless I would, same for Arse and Scouse.

I just don't feel that way.

I have no allegiance to a team simply because they hail from my country.

I have no connection with Barcelona but they're a great club, with an enormous fan base, unbelievably good players and a pedigree to match.

I also think it would be better for football as a whole were they to win the competition to save Europe getting very boring with such Premiership dominance

Excellent point, 100% agree with that.

About time the Champions League became exactly that. No 2nd place, third place, 4th place losers, just Champions. That way you can be assured no Premier League dominance.

The rest can go into the Uefa Euro League or whatever it is called, and that might add some credibility to that tournament as well.

I would say that generally speaking I support English teams in Europe; but then it gets down to what you define as a English team. I support Man Utd and Liverpool in Europe, because they have at least a few English players playing for them. I struggle to support Arsenal, purely because they aren't fundamentally English/British. I used to have a hatred of Chelsea because of the manner in which they came into their money, although now it's more of an ambivilance; I will generally support them against other non-English teams (caveat to follow).

The other team that I tend to 'support' when they are on the telebox is Barcelona. I've made several trips to see games at the Nou Camp, and find the whole club fascinating. The fact that they (generally speaking) play great football helps as well, naturally. I would certainly support them against Chelsea and Arsenal (not sure about the other two).

edit: Just to add, I of course wholy agree with changing the misnomer that is the 'Champions League'. Either that, or just form the European Super League and be done with it.
