Glad someone mentioned the Manor Ground - seven or eight stands holding about 20 people each, scattered around a pitch that sloped in two different directions at once. The pleasant surroundings and obvious non-league origins, though, were in stark contrast to the spiked fencing and security cameras at the away end, so maybe I can understand why few people have good memories of the place - plus the fact that we almost always lost there.

Oxford's new ground is a thorough disappointment by comparison. Soulless, three-sided and lacking any of the character of the old place.

The only good thing about Luton is that we always have a good turnout there, presumably because the rail link is direct.

Apart from that, it is a shit hole. I can't understand all these people waxing lyrical over Luton away. The ground is shit and miles from the train station, their (very few) fans are pikeys, and we usually seem to lose. Awful place. I honestly prefer going to Gillingham and Southend.

You have to wonder about the people who decide that building a 3 sided thing is a sensible way to go as it utterly ruins the atmosphere. At the very least, put some temporary seating there, or better still, only build it when you can afford to build four stands.

And at Oxford's ground, this crappy atmosphere is compounded by the fact that the away fans are miles from anyone else, completely isolated in the corner.

Are you speaking about The AMEX?

The away end at the Manor Ground was probably our most significant experience under trees prior to Withdean. Next to the dressing room stand angled across a corner, with the teams coming out of the front door.

Meopham, Kent.
Gillingham. Shitty little ground, scaffolding stand for an away end these days, but it IS part of our history. I do enjoy going back there.

As someone who is originally from Oxford but now living on the south coast, I can assure you that there are many people with many questions regarding those who built the new stadium. The old ground was poor, but did at least provide a great atmosphere (certainly with the home fans in the London Road Stand). Too many new grounds are too similar, though the AMEX has had a tremendous atmosphere from day one.
