Why do people wear replica shirts over their jackets or jumpers - they look stupid?

Would you ever dream of just wearing a regular t-shirt over a jumper?

So whats the point of wearing a replica shirt under a jumper to a game that cant be seen, may as well wear a regular shirt.

Anytime other than a game is wrong of course

I do wear my albion shirt over my (very thin) jumper for evening games but never a jacket or coat under a shirt.

I would assume it's to show their colours on colder days of the year.
