Now I wasn't old enough to go into Sherrys, I think it turned into the Pink Coconut. But the way I saw it, you had a different type of bird in each place.......there was some kind of pecking order, something like this.

The classiest birds were always to be found in clubs within hotels. Now seeing as I had zilch money, I never went there.

Next down was possibly Busbys. Your average middle class girl, who after a peck on the cheek might have let you kiss her on the way home.

Next was the Pink coconut bird. Would drink all night and let you on a promise the week later

Next was the top rank suite. Those girls that saw themselves just a bit above the Chav line, but as long as you never told anyone....

Lastly Coasters. Bloomin eck that was a cattle market.

Never knew Sherries, but Busby's did have 'Big Black Cox' as a dance night approx early nineties..
That was quite a groundbreaking headline (I still have the flyer) so gets my vote.

Odd fact: Mark who managed Busby's in mid/late 80's (at night) also ran the Madeira Cafe on Madeira Drive during the daytime..

Seem to recall playing for CDP vs Busbys in Lewes League division 12 in the early eighties. Their bouncers played in defence and came onto the pitch clutching pints of lager. They gave us free guest list tickets, we kicked their speedy winger DJ about ten foot in the air.

Seem also to recall that the lights went up at all Brighton venues at 11pm, you got served with a finger buffet, ham sarnies & coleslaw and the like and then the lights went down again and it was business as usual. Local bye-law of the time or something.
