Ian Holloway's Championship team of the season so far;

Al-Habsi (Reading)
Bruno
Lascelles (Newcastle)
Jansson (Leeds)
Malone (Fulham)
Knockaert
Shelvey (Newcastle)
Mooy (Huddersfield)
Kachunga (Huddersfield)
Abraham (Bristol City)
Gayle (Newcastle)

He says that Shelvey is the best player ever to play in the Championship which is debatable at best.

Can't understand why Dunk isn't in that team.

Shelvey is a good player. Wouldn't agree that he is the best ever though.

Interesting that he's dropped Dunk, who was in his Championship team of the season last year (below), given Dunk has stepped up his game to a new level.

He also called McCormack "the best player in the Football League" last season.

Marshall (Cardiff)

Elmohamady (Hull)
Dunk (Brighton)
Keane (Burnley)
Friend (Middlesbrough)

Barton (Burnley)
Stephens (Brighton)
Cotterill (Birmingham)
Arfield (Burnley)

Gray (Burnley)
McCormack (Fulham)

Pathetic to say Gayle when there's been players like Guy Whittingham

Wayne Bridge, Matthew Upson, Vicente - just 3 players better than him who have played for Brighton.

He variously described just about every in form striker as the best in the championship last season, usually one playing for a team he was doing his punditry at.

I'd definitely have Dunk in there, not sure I'd have Bruno as would be surprised if there hasn't been one better RB in the league so far this year. He's amazing obviously but hasn't been quite at his best.

Obviously his comments on Shelvey are laughable, but it's only the sort of hyperbole you expect with football pundits. I think he's done a pretty good job with his team of the year and it is clear that the only reason he's dropped Dunk from last year is that he didn't want to load it with Albion and Newcastle players.

No real issues with the list itself.

But Jonjo best ever? Bale, Kinkladze, Whittingham (Peter), Reid, Phillips, Gomez, The Dagger plus loads more have a case for being better than him.

Lallana played in the Championship as recently as 2012, just to name one more.

I suppose Holloway is referring to the players WHEN they were in the Championship rather than based on what they became (lallana and Bale) or what they were previously.

Shelvey is 24. Proven in the prem (in my opinion).

Others have been in this division when young, or towards the end of their career.

Not often do you see a proven player in his prime in this league.
