Sheffield Wednesday sack Sturrock

The Sheff Wed board clearly think they have a squad of players at least good enough for lower mid-table. We'll see if they are right in the next few months.

The trouble with Wednesday is like Leeds, they think they're a big club when the truth is a large stadium doesn't make you 'big'. The expectations there outstrip the available ability.

Behind Mike Newell, he's the manager I'd like to take over at Leeds

Few more facts coming out now.

First, although it was a 4-year contract, apparently the compensation was limited to a year, so Sturrock will not get anything exceeding £200,000, yep, not much more than we've recently had to pay out in manager compensation. And you can judge which out of Sheff Wed and Brighton can better afford that.

A second interesting point is that apparently Sheff Wed's wages were midtable for the Championship, not bottom 4. So that is a point in favour of the chairman's decision.

Think Sturrock was still very unlucky though and they will struggle to get anyone better, but no patience with managers is the trend now. He will probably end up in a decent job.

According to the Championship yesterday the average expectancy in employment for managers in that division is 1 year 11 days.
