It’s quite worrying, that had it not been for VAR the ref would’ve given a yellow. Hard to imagine what on earth the Sheffield United player was trying to do with that tackle.

When watching the angle from the ref's position, you don't immediately see how bad it is. That's the whole point of VAR. I don't think there were many delays with it today, and it got the big decisions right.

But seriously.

Lamptey was booked and Atwell likes to level sendings off up, so I see why

Webby was an odd choice for right back anyway
Webster was doing well, why an odd choice?
Lamptey was on a yellow and Webster took a knock, I think.
Makes sense then.
can’t be sure about webster, but lamptey looked in danger of getting a very silly second yellow and levelling the playing field. perhaps webster then had to come off due to the game plan being adjusted by lamptey’s substitution
Yes those blade boys were starting to man handle young Tariq, he could have easily got involved he isn't a back off sort of player.

The TV commentary was so biased towards how bad United were and no real recognition of how well Brighton played to completely destroy them. Some ridiculous remarks about past history of results too. Im only please Mitoma played on and trust he is ok, absolute joke the ref needed to check VAR for that red and also the offside that was blatant offside surely the lino could see that.

Paul Robinson , the analyst on 5 Live was very fair about how dominant Brighton were, and how excellent various players were, he called it the most one sided game he’d seen all season (although he argued that Brighton have been inconsistent this season and need to string a few performances like this together)

(You can listen back to the full commentary on Sounds)

I think the lino gave it as offside? The ref certainly disallowed the goal immediately for something.

Just home. My single word summary of the match was “Unfair”

Utd are that crap. Season can’t end early enough for them.

Just home. My big question is how the actual f**k did Attwell, even allowing for his general ineptness, manage to miss the red card? Truly, truly an awful ref.
But a very enjoyable day out.

Didn't have a great angle, and blocked by another player.

Indeed it was. But - as the defender made no attempt to get the ball, he would have had to send him off as well. Then they would have been down to nine men, so I guess he bottled it.

I thought it looked a pen in real time but they didn't show a replay for some reason.

Thank goodness for VAR. If he’d got away with a tackle like that it would have been criminal. I’d like to see him get longer than the 3 game ban. Was something you’d have seen Vinnie Jones or John Fashanu do. Wtf Wilder was trying to say about it being a strong tackle and would’ve been ok in his day - maybe that’s why all his generation are crocked. Take your point about Atwell being unsighted - can be the only reason for a yellow. Don’t think we’ll have an easier match all season - they just want the season to end - can only see it getting worse when you look at their fixtures. Wolves will run amok.
