Roberto De Zerbi to Sky Sports:

"We are very happy for the result. Obviously the red card for Sheffield United changed the game. We have to be honest when they concede a red card and we have a player more it is [easier] because [otherwise] the game would be very tough. Sheffield United are a live team so for our performance I am very happy. We have to prepare for Everton in the best way because it will be another tough game."

On seeing off the threat of Sheffield United on the counterattack:

"When we are dominating the game we have more intention and more focus not to concede a counterattack. Because we play with our style, and our style is to try to dominate the game. Different teams play on the counterattack and they want to play without the ball and look to counterattack."

"We have to be more focused on the safe passes, short passes, shorter passes and to stay many players close to the ball because when we lose the ball we have to react, and not concede on the counterattack."

Possibly, but no VAR and on-field officials may have given a red straight away.

No chance.

There's a feeling that they are tending to make conservative decisions initially, in the knowledge that VAR will step in, if required, even if it's subconscious.
Yes I believe that does happen in some tight calls, but this was a blatant red and the ref clearly didn't see it properly.

Anyone else genuinely angry about that tackle? I mean I’m glad it helped us, but it was really nasty. This has already been posted but…

Quite possibly the worst against us I have seen since Britos on Knockaert

Well Man Utd have Harry Styles shown up to watch them. So... you know. Priorities

Do we not get any reaction on Sky now? I know it's important to talk shite about Man Utd for hours on end, but a couple of minutes on little old Brighton might be nice
TBF they did say reaction would be on Sky Sport News and it was and they were very complimentary. Not much help I know it you are overseas!

Job well done despite not being near our best. Played better last week! Funny old game - job done brilliantly - 5-0 away wins in the premier league don’t come around often!

I think this the usual fate for the Sunday 2pm curtain raiser.

Could conceivably have smashed Kaoru's leg. And WFT is the ref doing giving a yellow initially? Either he saw it in which case how can it be yellow or he didn't see it all and he's just guessing or playing percentages.

Always the same with these refs, it all depends on which ground

Wouldn't have even been 'a word' at Stanmer on a Sunday morning

I’ve finally got round to buying a Brighton shirt and fancied the green and black for a while. Bit the bullet and paid 50 quid and 15 for delivery here in Spain. Then I am informed that I have to pay €18.99 import tax so wobbled a bit but went ahead. Then the Courier said they couldn’t deliver it and left it in a shop 50 metres from my door. By this time I am well chuntering and swear I will never get anything from the UK again.

Anyway, I wore it this afternoon and all is well in the world. Money well spent!

for all the anti VAR talk, and much as i’d like to see it gone, the fact that the ref initially gave a yellow for that makes me reconsider

(*though there is an argument to be made that they avoid the more severe consequences on first viewing as they expect VAR to bail them out if it was that bad)

It was a thigh breaker.

This time it didn’t break his thigh but any lower and that’s smashing his knee to bits in a ‘16 months out’ type of way.
