I was standing on a groyn in Seaford many years ago and this bloody great fin drifted by, followed by a tail fin about 15' behind. It must have been about 6' away from me.
Good job I knew it was a basking shark. Awesome.

Ah, You were the victim of the Shark peadophile im afraid.

A Shark as Big as a Table

Scary shit. Thank god we dont have these bastards swimming off the likes of our shores:eek:.

But people still go to sea pissed out of their brains, and they haven't got as ready:laugh: made excuse!

Great Whites have been spotted off the English coast line for years, there was a programme all about it last year, one was even spotted off the coast of Scotland!!

I may be wrong but I thought that there had be no verified sightings of great whites in our waters, and all claims had been debunked. With the water getting warmer, I'm sure it will happen, but I'm not so sure it has already.

Went whale watching with kids last year and whilst heading out we saw a large fin, the pilot slowed down to have a closer look.
It was a big shark he radioed back to let authorities know, a few days later a swimmer was killed by a shark off Cottesloe beach.
You may hear about attacks over there but you don't hear of the near misses which seem to be getting more regular.

when i was in Perth a few years ago there was this shock horror story of how a great white had eaten a surfer who was out about 150m form shore. I didnt quite get it? How is that a shock? If the bloody thing had come wading up the beach with a flick knife wearing a hoody then i might have been shocked and impressed.

I was near a bit further down from bondi beach at christmas with the wife and the siren went off, we asked a local oh is that for the sharks and he said yeah as everyone was runing back to shore. The wife said where shes from in michigan a siren like that would mean that a tornado was coming and to take cover. So i chirped up where im from if you here a siren like that it means the germans are coming.......they did not get it !

I was on the Palace Pier a few years back when I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a dorsal fin just behind a couple of kids who were in a boat. When I got a proper look at it, it was quite clearly a medium sized shark (although I dunno what 'breed' it was). They were going round and round in circles in this boat, completely oblivious to the shark that was right behind them. It wasn't closing in, but it was quite clearly following them. I ran and told one of the workers on the pier to alert the coastguard, but he just rolled his eyes and turned the merry-go-round off.

I can confirm that no GW has ever been positively identified in British waters (despite the Sun’s annual summer story to sell newspapers). This isn’t to say they’ve never been here; indeed the question is more why wouldn’t they have been here? (seal population, correct sea temp etc). The nearest one that’s ever been fished out of the sea is off La Rochelle. Other questions I can answer on this thread are: Q - since when they eat motor boards (inferring this story’s bollocks)? A - Well, probably since they were invented actually! The most recent case caught on camera was about 10+years ago off Italy in a famous incident that made the evening news here (it’s on You Tube if anyone needs further proof)

I’m a bit of a shark geek as you can tell, have been all my life. If you ever get the chance to dive with any sharks I can thoroughly recommend it. Treat with caution and respect and you’ll find out that it’s an urban myth they just roam the seas looking to attack everything in their path. And do it before the Asians eat them all, many are likely to become extinct during our lifetimes sadly!
