'Shares' Sidebar

Got something to say or just want fewer pesky ads? Join us... 😊

Apart from anything else, what's the point of "sharing"? I come on NSC to read the views of other NSC users and to contribute to some of the discussions. Sharing all of this with other contacts who aren't NSC users strikes me as being simple self-indulgence.

Very annoying and would never be of use for me. The browser is bad enough on an iPad these days anyway, adding more stuff isn't going to help. I'm using NSC less and less every day.

Bad enough in what way?

I use NSC on an iPad daily and selfishly ensure that any changes I make, which are few, are fine on an iPad.

iPads account for c30% of NSC's 'mobile' traffic (iPhones account for 35%) so I always try to make sure that the experience doesn't suffer.

(I know I need to find a solution for the ad banner over-running the NSC logo)

15% of NSC's traffic comes from someone clicking on a link on a social network - mainly Twitter and Facebook.

Nothing to do with NSC, but since the last couple of iOS updates, scrolling up on a page using Safari is dreadful, it can't keep up. I didn't think it was peculiar to me, having seen other complaints, but I find I use browsing less and less and just use dedicated apps. NSC used to be the vast majority if my iPad time, now I maybe look at it twice a week and use facebook a lot more, albeit for different things.

I find it extremely irritating and of no practical use to me personally, but then I hate them on every site I use.

I no longer even bother with the site of our local newspaper down here as their implementation of floating sidebars is too intrusive.

I have not noticed it, neither large nor small.

I hate it and blame Barber.

suspect it may not be pointless to Bozza, hence why he is testing it

I'm just seeing if people use it - I'll be loosely monitoring traffic from social networks to see if it's made any difference. If it doesn't get used much, then I'll get rid of it.

And what's with SumoMe (bottom right)? Is a giant Japanese fella going to come round if I disagree with Bozza?
Derren Brown played that game of not looking at his fingers but the more he told you not too look the more you looked. Stop looking, has it gone away.

The fact it keeps coming back is annoying.

Rep/Thumbs = Good
Annoying social sidebars = Bad.

Whatever happened to rep? I thought it was useful,

Smaller is an improvement. I cannot see myself EVER using it... so not there at all would be better for me.

Annoying, ugly, pointless.

Additionally, there is increasingly too many scripts on NSC which causes it to run very poorly on some devices.

+1 to this. Keep having scripts crash internet explorer when opening a thread.

I like it. It's not stopping me reading the content. I may even share it with someone I know.

Have I said something bad?
