Brighton / Hove actually
If that money was spent on building hospitals, for example, the same circulation would occur. The problem isn't about spending money, it's about how it's spent.

Hope that helps

It doesn't really make much difference. Buckingham Palace draws millions of people and is part of the economy that funds the NHS. All this does is provide specialist and skilled restoration jobs. All the money that they earn will go back into the economy as they feed and home their families as well as pay tax.

so the question is do we object to the fact some refubishment is to be done, the amount, or who the incumbant head of state is?

I object to money that is meant to be for the benefit of the nation being spent on doing up the building where the Queen lives when there are FAR more pressing things to be spending the money on.

I think the poor who would benefit from £369m would disagree with you

At a time of Brexit uncertainty and cost-cutting to health and benefit budgets, someone sees fit to spend £369m on refurbishing Buckingham Palace. It is high-time they chipped in for some of this and if they don't like it they should abdicate.

Cards on the table; I am a republican. But I really do feel that regardless of your opinions on who should be head of state, this is truly shameful. My wife volunteers at a family support charity called Welcare, and every week there are people turning up in tears, worried about not being able to pay the heating bill or being turfed out of rented accommodation. There is advice being given on how to keep warm without turning up the heating, or how to feed a family of four on ludicrously small amounts of money. Meanwhile, the biggest spongers in the country (who also happen to be the wealthiest) get looked after like this. It really is an absolute DISGRACE.

Welcome to the 5th/6th biggest economy in the world.

All public museums and galleries etc obviously should sell all their works and antiquities then as the cost in maintaining such items and places could obviously be better spent elsewhere.

Stop funding the arts all together as well, money can be spent better elsewhere as it happens.

How about feeding the British working class forced to use food banks?

I agree. I was being sarcastic perhaps I should have annotated my post as such. However we should reduce our foreign aid budget to finance these things.

Yes, we should definitely allow people to starve for the crime of being foreign instead of telling our filthy rich unelected head of state and family to pay for more of the absurd costs of maintaining the many palaces they live in.

You are all being totally unfair.

Launching ships and declaring supermarkets open is REALLY HARD WORK.
