A bit of political opportunism by the Tories surely won't do any harm in this case.....it gives Caplin yet another reason to remind JP just how important for him personally the decision is. If it's a YES, IC can of course take all the plaudits.....if it's a NO, then his days are numbered. Presumably this is one of the aspects which the club considered before hosting the trip. This addss more fuel to the fire which says "A no to Falmer means no labour representation in Sussex post 2005".

As for trying to work out the logic of why the decision itself is taking so long, I think that's a waste of valuable thinking time.

Political opportunism certainly but don't be too hard on the Norman's. As well as being councillors for Withdean they are also season ticket holders and so have the Club's interests at heart.

I welcome any political opportunism. At least we are still having notice taken of us and our campaign.

Really? Ann Norman along with the Drakes were probably the most vociferous opponents against the Albion moving into Withdean. As the for the rest of the Tories, yep it's political opportunism as everyone says. Still, better to have them onside than against us I guess. Even if they are Tories!

Bit (from The Conservative Party website)on Nicholas Boles who is the Conservative opponent for Ivor Caplin to take on at the next General Election -
Nicholas Boles

Parliamentary Spokesman for Hove

About Nicholas
Nicholas is the director of Policy Exchange, a centre-right think tank and charity set up in 2002. He is also the non-executive chairman of a small group of manufacturing and trading businesses, which he ran as chief executive from 1995 until 2000.

He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford where he obtained a first class honours degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. He then won a Kennedy Scholarship to the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where he received a Masters in Public Policy.

Nicholas has five brothers and sisters and fourteen nephews and nieces so he is used to making himself heard in a crowd. He speaks French and German fluently and enjoys sailing, skiing and a good novel.

Conservatives -- Working for Hove
Nicholas lives on Hove seafront and will be leading the local Conservative Party’s campaign against Brighton and Hove City Council’s proposals for four skyscrapers on the site of the King Alfred Leisure centre. This is not the only act of cultural vandalism the Council intends to inflict on Hove.

The Party is also determined to stop the Council from closing Hove Library and selling it off to developers. This is a well used, well loved and beautifully designed landmark in the City and must be saved. The level of council tax is of huge concern to the residents of Hove and Portslade.

The Government has just award Brighton and Hove one of the smallest grant increases in the country and the Council is projecting a further 16.5% increase in council tax to follow on this years 14.5% increase. Local Conservatives will be turning the spotlight on the flood of subsidies to Labour heartlands in the North of England and the raw deal being dealt to people in the South.

Nicholas' Experience
Nicholas was elected on to Westminster City Council in 1988. He represented the West End ward comprising Mayfair and Soho – an area with more planning and licensing applications than most of the rest of London put together.

He became chairman of Westminster’s Housing Committee in 1999 and oversaw a fall in temporary accommodation costs and the preparation of a successful ALMO bid. He stood down from Westminster Council in 2002

One likes to think that after the dire response from Mr Bottomley in Worthing a few weeks back and my letters and emails to Michael Howard complaining that is what he meant by taking an active interest in our campaign.
