There is a lot being made of our U23’s and our trust in youth. There is a lot of talk about our shrewd investment in players like Lamptey. There isn’t so much being made of our ability to develop local talent.

Dunk, March, Jenks, Cochrane, Roberts and Sanders are all Sussex born, developed by the club and have all played this season. Webster also a Sussex lad.,

There haven’t been many decent Sussex born players over the years. Gareth Barry and Palace Southgate spring to mind. Who else?

I keep thinking of players like Paul Ifill. Would love to know who is the most decorated player to come out of Sussex.

Russell Martin is from Brighton

Good shout. My lad has played at his academy. Russell claims to have the record for the most goals scored in a season at Hollingbury Hawks (95)

Really exciting times with the youth players coming through. Success also breeds further success as any player in the youth system will surely look at the game time both in league and Cup being given to our young talent and think, could I be next. Hell yes if you perform in the development ranks and take your opportunity when it's presented to you. Further to this, if a young Sussex based player now has the chance of signing for the Albion or a South London/another South Coast club, we are in a much stronger position to demonstrate a clear path to the first team, especially with a manager on a 5 year contract.

A lot of credit has to be given to Potter for creating this new culture in a relatively short space of time. I loved CH when he was here but GP is definitely the man to take the whole club to the next level.

Peter Allen, Hove County Grammar boy. To the rest of us he was like a player from another planet as he ran rings around everyone when captaining the school side.

He joined Spurs as a schoolboy in 1965 and went on to captain Leyton Orient, making over 400 appearances. Definitely one inexplicably missed by the Albion.

Stan Brown was born in Lewes and went on to have a long career at Fulham as well as making a few apps on loan at Brighton. I believe his brothers played league football too.
