Astute and Trafalgar class submarines are not nuclear boats. They are hunter killer boats powered by nuclear but not carrying ballistic missiles.. SSNs as opposed to SSBNs. One of the Astute class is at sea trialling after repairs,

There is always one of those out, there hasn't been a day in the last 40 years when we haven't had at least one of our Ballistic Nuc subs out .
None operational according to the report on the news, so what are we doing ? Buying another 4...You couldn't make it up
The BBC is about as reliable as the Daily Mail.
It is such a HUGE story, they don't even have it on their News page, or their UK News page.
Do you think the MOD tell the BBC everything ?
The articles just say sources and reports. There's not a single quote in the whole story. The number of people who know where a Trident submarine is at any one time, can be counted on one hand.
Hasn't there always been one around the Falklands, keeping the Argies on their toes!
and apparently not one operational
tins hats at the ready
Whether it's there or not, I would think it'll keep them guessing as to what is correct! How would they know if it was there or not?
Why would you even need one nuclear submarine operational? Soon as one fires at will, we're all dead anyway.

& on the same basis, why the need for the tin hats afterwards? There won't be an afterwards.
They're currently keeping Gerry (it is still Gerry isn't it?) at bay by patrolling our canals. Not at sea does not in totality mean not operational.....
