Are there not some DDs that can only be cancelled by the merchant?

With Setanta its not a DD its taken from a credit card or debit card which you cannot stop as easily as a DD. So what would happen if they go under and you havnt cancelled this? Who would you cancel it with? How can they still take money if they've gone bust?

I think you have to take up an indemnity claim, but not sure if that's only for DDs.

Interesting rumours circulating about the cancellations of Valuev / Chagaev and indeed Haye / Klitschko. Both cancelled last minute and both were under big contracts with Setanta.

Has Haye done some shrewd business here after seeing Setanta's non payments to the SPL and potentialy the EPL?

They could now well go into administration before the weekend as two investment groups with substantial shareholdings decide whether or not to pump in £50M to save Setanta. The Premier League are due a £35M payment next Monday so the investors might write off their losses instead of keeping Setanta afloat just to incur further losses. When Setanta goes bust , the first thing the administrators will do is pull all their channels off the screen. The broadcasting rights will then be up for grabs , I believe that ITV will be able to get the England home friendlies and FA Cup rights under an existing agreement that they can take over (at a lower price) if Setanta went out of business. Sky could take one of the two packages of Premier League matches for next season , but the season after when Setanta only won a single package wouldn't be allowed due to EU rules. ESPN may turn out to be the knight in shining armour and pick up the sporting rights it wants and then it can launch its own sports package (this could be where the SPL , Golf , Boxing and Gaelic football end up). I cant see any future for the other sports including BSP unless the broadcasting rights are picked up for a song. The football club channels , Arsenal , Liverpool , Celtic and Rangers will all end up as online only. The Racing channel will only survive if it can succeed at being a standalone channel , similar to MUTV.

The Premier League have told Setanta that if they dont make a further payment by close of business on Friday the contract for showing 46 live games next season will be terminated. Apparently Setanta have made a £15M payment today and have to stump up another £20M or the rights will be made available , interested bidders have to make bids before 22nd June with the proviso that the Premier League will advise them if Setanta comes up with the funds and the auction wont proceed. Endemol are the latest group being touted as Setanta's saviour as part of a consortium led by the owner of Top Up Tv.

The FA are also cancelling Setanta's rights to England matches and FA Cup games. The SPL are still owed £3M and may tear up their £125M agreement with Setanta as it looks like they'll never see another penny.

Setanta have now gone into administration , 200 of the 430 staff have been made redundant immediately. Deloitte , the administrators are expected to pull the plug on the channels broadcasting as soon as possible to eliminate carriage fees. If you are a subscriber you will need to cancel the direct debit because if they take a payment and go bust you'll be a creditor at the back of a very long queue.

Racing UK have announced they will become a standalone channel at £20 a month which includes a £9.99 fee to watch online as well. They currently have over 55,000 residential and about 2,500 commercial cutomers.

From what I understand Setanta Sports 1 currently on the Sky epg at channel 423 and Setanta Ireland , on channel 430 will still continue but they will be only available to Setanta (Eire) customers in the ROI and Ulster.
