Is this tennis or cricket? Seems Lendl is serving up plenty of half-volleys that our boys are smashing all over the place.

66.4 Simmons to Bopara, FOUR, well, what a shot. Late swing nearly knocks Bopara off his feet but he managed to get bat on it, flicking it through midwicket and somehow timed it for four. The mark of a good bat and better batsman

68.2 Simmons to Cook, FOUR, very well played. A lovely flip through midwicket to this slow, swinging delivery just outside his leg stump

Cook on 94 - now there's one man who won't be tempted to bring up his ton with a six.

its just an evolution of the game really.

20/20 is nothing new. The Brighton Evening league played a 20 overs game in the 70's ( although it was 15 x 8 ball overs) as did the Worthing league.

Its all about the throw away sport that attracts americans. Ice hockey, baseball( to some degree), Basketball are games that are high octnae, crash bang wallop type games perfect for TV.....20 20 is that also. A game that can be played for 5 days without a result is something from the past

and what happens when the TV audiences tire of the crash bang wallop stuff......

in the 1970s you could not have predicted the demise of the Sunday League, 40 over cricket......

but now it is no more!

It's surprising that Cook's highest score is 139 when he's already had 8 previous tons. Hopefully, this could be the big one...

Heavy rain this morning - could be a complete washout today
