An aspect to remember is that Gus is relatively young. He doesn't need to be in a hurry to move up the footy food chain, he's possibly got another 20 or so years of management ahead of him. He can "afford" to spend 4/5 years rather than 2 years at BHA and still end up at Chelsea or whatever.

Players, on the other hand, have a much more limited working lifetime so need to progress (if they have the talent) asap.

Personally I think a fair few PL teams will have their eye on Poyet but will want to see if his managerial talent is not a "flash in the pan" so will want to see a few years of consistency first.

Anyway, it appears he's happy, TB is happy, the players are happy, the fans are happy so may not want to risk that this early in his managerial career. Regardless, only Gus really knows how he feels so lets just wait and see.

What is certainly very positive, is that the setup we have now will attract a better class of manager than ever before so if/when Gus ever does leave, we (hopefully) won't get someone shoddy in his place.

If we don't go up, Poyet will probably leave in the autumn, and unless we spend incredibly well in the summer then can't see anything but second season syndrome for us. Apart from the centre backs and wingers, our squad is packed full of ordinary players

Bloody hell, you're optimistic.

Mate you've highlighted a really genuine issue there. Please ring the club immediately and tell Poyet. And Bloom - because I'm really really worried that they will have missed this. It's been anordinary season, packed with woeful performances, lack of any real decent performances against pretty rubbish teams. Last season we were dispatching the lies of Oldham, Wycombe, Orient etc. this season we have struggled with the likes of West Ham, Reading, Forest, Birmingham, Blackpool. I dont understand why there is such a lack of urgency at the helm of this club.

We are genuinely in the shite and I'm really scared that only YOU can see it. Something needs to be done - and it needs to be done NOW.

I have stated this fact many times.back in 91 we lost to notts county at wembley and were relegated the following season.
Forest got to the playoffs last season & look where they are this season.

Cardiff? Reading? Both up there this year.
09/10 Forest and Cardiff made the play offs and again the next year (three years in a row for Cardiff)
08/09 Reading (Up there three years out of four, finished 8th the other season)
07/08 was the last time none of the play off sides went on to make it that far the next season.

So it goes both ways. Still, emphasise the negative, it seems to bring you some sort of perverse pleasure.

I know when we started having more success than them up the road, a few of them said we will suffer next season.

The thing with the mob up the road is that after our flying start this season they patted us on the head and said the league table is only worth looking at after ten games... then twenty games...then the end of the season was the real gauge... now it's suddenly the end of NEXT season!!!

They are clutching at straws I fear.

If we can keep hold of gus & add to our squad while not losing our key players we should still be strong next season

Yea but that was because we sold our best 2 players due to our comedy financial situation. This obviously isn't the case anymore. I think if we don't go up this year we will be there or there abouts next season.

the reason forest are shit this season is because they SACKED the manager that got them to the play offs. hardly a progressive step, is it?

oh, and then they hired cotteril :S

A very good thread this. We certainly won't have the same impetus that we had from our crowning as League One Champions. Perhaps we'd be in a better mindset if we just missed out on the Play Offs than if we lost the play off final? Who knows? The key will be keeping hold of our key players and making aditions such as Mattock/Reyes/New GK and a semi reliable Championship striker with a point to prove.. I honestly think if we managed that we'd be very likely to push for promotion to the Premiership next season, if we don't perhaps we might get found out and do a Millwall?
