I have just listened to the podcast of Michael Vaughan talking to Jonathan Agnew and it was interesting to hear an Ex England captain and obvious authority on cricket saying that the outcome of The Ashes was set by our poor bowling after lunch on the 3rd day at The Gabba, when we let Australia off the hook and gave lthem the oppotunity to win, which they took. He also said that the result of this test and possibly The Ashes was dependent on how many runs Cook could score especially as from no 7 our batting is weak and we wouldnt expect them to score the same amount of runs as the Australia tail does. His final point was that we can not replace Stokes the allrounder but should have replaced Stokes the bowler with better as we must bowl out Australia twice each test to win it. He doubted that we could do that as our pace bowler replacement arent fast enough to bowl bouncers, hence we are bowling much too short. He also said that the wicket will not help Moeen Ali as much as it does Nathan Tyson so the bowling outlook is not very good.

All sound analysis. Hopefully we'll scrape a draw in this one (please rain!) and get Mark Wood back in the team asap.

Were fooked. It seems a recurring theme in recent Ashes series that in home conditions we can win maybe win 3-2/ 2-1, but in Australian conditions its about avoiding a 5-0 whitewash. Stokes is badly missed, but the Aussie quick's bowl 5ph faster than any of the English bowlers, and apart from the ever green Anderson/Broad combination, the rest of the bowlers look like they would not look out of place in a local pub team.

We have to remember that not many teams in world cricket win away from home. Usually the no.1 team can do it, but that's about it.

Our batsmen can't cope with the extra pace because they're not used to it. The same thing will happen in the summer when India tour England, they've got some amazing players but they struggle against the swinging ball.

We simply don't have the team to win in these conditions.
