Pocognoli has spent his entire career as a leftback. That's what we've signed - a leftback. We've got Lua Lua, Murphy and Skalak. How on earth do you figure that left-midfield is a gap that needed filling ?
Left-sided defensive midfield. Norwood, Stephens, Kayal, Ince, Rosenior, Sidwell are all right footed, and Bridcutt, Crofts, Dicker etc before them. And most of the defence are right footed (except Bong). Forster-Caskey was the only one that was not.
When we have an injury crisis (next time) players might have to slot in not their ideal position. Depends if you are into total football or specialised positions or somewhere in between.
And some players are more on-footed than others. (e.g. Joe Bennett was OK when here but he was even more left footed than Solly March, and the opposition knew it.)

I'm sorry, but you're having one of your turns again. Why are you banging on about the left side of central midfield ? We've signed a leftback. Not a wingback. Not cover for central midfield. Pocognoli is a leftback by trade, has been all his career, and with Liam crocked and Bong looking iffy lately, its a position that clearly needed covering. Why are you trying to shoe-horn him all over the shop ?
That's a rhetorical question btw, I'm not expecting an actual answer.

It's a loan deal, he isn't our top target, he turned us down a couple of months ago so not 100% likely but it is an option

Left back. Signed as a left back. Will play at left back (barring emergencies).
Nice try but I think Perseus will have an answer
