Seats on the 19:48 Liverpool to Euston train on Sunday

I've left it late to book train tickets. It's still possible to buy a ticket for this 1948 train so as to get back down south at a reasonable time, but not possible to reserve a seat.

Does anyone know if this means its standing room only for those without reserved seats, or whether its just going to be a free for all first come first served?

If you haven't got a seat reservation, head for coach E. There are never seat reservations in coach E on the Liverpool to Euston trains.

There will be a coach full with unreserved seats but it'll be a scramble. As it's the only feasible train back, it's going to be rammed with Albion fans. Gonna be just like the Seagull Specials.

Or if you want to you could always upgrade to first class. Think it's £15 from Liverpool on Sundays. I used to sit in first class and asked for an upgrade and it was £15 then. Used to be the only one in first class as well.

Also, if the train manager isn't a miserable old sod, and first class is empty (likely!), he (or she) can downgrade first class carriages to standard, to allow people to sit down. Good luck guy's!

That was just over £100 on New Years Day (lpool to euston).

Had paid for standard ticket in advance for £30, and just over £100 extra for first class (if i wanted it).

Am going on my previous experiences. Used to pay £10 from Manchester on Sundays if I wasn't staying in Liverpool.

Think first is rammed - price for a first class ticket approaching 140ish tonight, so doubt cheap upgrades available on the day (but you never know).

Have booked train tickets and will hope for the best!

They get the extra they paid to be in first class refunded if this happens, only if the train is completely full and standing though as it loses the company money.
