Let them eat cake, eh? I think this post represents the final stage of football’s transformation from mass entertainment for all, to an exclusive entertainment for the middle-class.

It’s been on the cards for the last 30 years, but we’ve now reached the stage where a fan is openly bemoaning that they have to share their sporting hobby with the poor. (And in their next post openly mocking them for being poor)

How dare they try to enjoy a pursuit they can barely afford. Bring out the prawn sandwiches lads, and enjoy them.

If you can only just afford a season ticket for Premier League football, I'm sorry you just can't afford Premier League football.

I've been there, I was a couple of months away from having to give it up, I found another job just in time and my small wage covers my utility bills of which the Albion is one.

Most other 'normal' wastes of money have been shelved, but I'd rather go to the Albion than get bladdered, smoke 20 B&H, eat weekly takeaway, buy the latest phone, TV, holidays, on and on and on.

My luxury is my season ticket (that's how much I hate myself).
But it's my LUXURY.
I know what it costs and I buy it.

To buy a luxury and then have someone moan on my behalf that I can only just afford it is ridiculous.

Yes ticket was £42 so would have saved £7. Even if I could have persuaded somebody to join scheme they would also have to cough up the £20 which I have to return to them. Also have to get my Rotherham supporter relative to pay £15 and look forward to membership pack which would end up in bin. Sums up the system and for saving £7 not worth the hassle. Club will be happy as they have gained £42 which is what it is all about

Ok. Too late now but You said you had many mates with STS who sit near you who weren’t going. Was not one of them ok to buy a sharing pass if you paid for it ? (Takes 30 seconds on the ticket site). Fair enough if not but it’s pretty straightforward to do.
PS - you don’t get sent a A+ pack anymore just the membership for £15/£18 (they’ve sold out). So it wouldn’t go in the bin.

Thank you but have now purchased a ticket for £42 Did ask a couple of mates who both say on principal will not take up sharing pass. Was not willing to ring round any more.
Of course although ticket I have purchased is in another part of stand relative will still be able to sit next to me. I have said enough about system and will be interesting to see what club comes up with. However do think this Brentford game with 8pm Boxing Day KO should have been treated as exceptional circumstances and to try and increase attendance opened ticket exchange very early and even offer discounted tickets

Neither of my mates can go to the game on the 26th. I know plenty of people who'd love to experience the Albion/the Amex but this process is far too much trouble. So two more empty seats and loss of the ancillary revenue. Plus dissatisfied supporters. Looks like a lose lose situation to me.

Haven't read all of this thread, but an example of how costly it's getting. I have a ST in WSL, toward the South Stand, but I wanted to take my lad with me to the City game, so had to put up my seat for sale as I can't pass it on. My seat didn't sell. I had to buy 2 x adult seats for me & my 5 year old to be next to each other. These were in WSL also, although toward the North Stand. Cost of the tickets was 116.00, plus the cost of my ST which didn't sell. If I was still allowed top pass it on, I would have got face value for it. (I've never sold my ST for profit when away from home).
In future, I intend to take my lad more often, so will more than likely not renew my ST as it's just so difficult to sell. I have managed to sell through the correct channel only once this season, I was refunded something like 38.00. So the club seem to making a profit there.
Anyway, all I know is that my particular circumstances do not make it worthwhile having a ST anymore if I can't pass it on to whoever I want as easily as I used to be able when when working away. They have made a problem which is clearly impacting attitudes of supporters, attendances, atmosphere, and also revenue!

For future reference you don’t have to sell and buy another ticket but if you call supporter services and explain they’ll move your season ticket for one match and find a seat for your son next to you. Think there’s a £5 fee but that’s a lot cheaper than buying a whole new ticket.

Yes but even though Golstone maybe willing to buy a seat for £15 for somebody who does not usually go he has to persuade one of his mates to also pay £20 to join share scheme

People who expect a free ticket for a premier league football match are generally known as freeloaders!!
