Everyone else sees us for what we are, and always have been:-

A BOTTOM 6 SIDE.
Well, quite obviously not the case at all if the Guardian journos' predictions for us have averaged out at a 12th placed finish

(Admittedly the bloke who wrote the piece looks to be one of those who foresees more of a struggle..)

Nobody, other than a few clowns on here sees the Albion as 'well if we'd won half the games we'd drawn we'd have finished mid table'.

Everyone else sees us for what we are, and always have been:-

A BOTTOM 6 SIDE.

Writing a season preview before the window has slammed shut, is a fools errand.

But as it stands, at the time of writing, the Albion are a bottom 6 side who's squad has got smaller.
A fact reflected in the article.

A bottom 6 side that finished 4 points away from 12th. These are fine, very fine margins, and seems unreasonable to call people clowns who point this out.

As a diehard fan you surely well know we were draw specialists last season and in most of those draws we dominated and deserved more.

Now whether that changes this season? Remains to be seen. But I don’t think it’s unrealistic to say we have a decent chance of finishing higher this season. The bookies seem to think so as well.

Completely understandable with all the information he hand to had at the time of writing, and let's face it still relevant today.

12th ought to be the 'catch all' for a mid term Premier League side.
Chances are they have their top 6 the promoted teams straight down (not happening) and 11 teams finishing 12th.

Unkie Tony has said he expects more this season.
So we will get more this season.

Matey may well have written a completely difference piece as the window slams shut, but what's the point of a season preview...

... 3 games into the season.

9. "Nearly five miles out of the city centre, the stadium is not the most convenient for fans." 4 miles from Churchill sq, 3.5 from the station. The train takes 10 mins from Brighton, even less than that from Lewes. OK, a city centre ground would be lovely but it's hardly a ballache to get to

Then there's all the stuff he didn't say :)

Technically, that's correct. It's NOT the most convenient for fans. Not when you compare it to, say The Goldstone. However, it's by no means the least convenient, for the reasons you mention and the fact that there's a pretty decent P&R system operating.

The one thing I did think was interest – which I now, admittedly, take with a pinch of salt given the other inaccuracies – was 'Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who has joined Feyenoord for £3.9m'. I thought the fee was nowhere near that?

Also, regarding '“In training, he didn’t tie his shoelaces and he had everyone on skates. He’s a blessing for Brighton, but if you love watching gifted players, you should wish for him to make the next step.” The former Brighton defender Leon Balogun, now of Rangers, wanted to talk about one man, Yves Bissouma, after facing him in a pre-season friendly.'

Wasn't that interview/video release before the game with Rangers?

Nobody expects a hagiography and nobody is blinkering themselves to the challenges we face. The complaint about the Guardian article is not that it's negative, but that it is very poorly researched and riddled with inaccuracies.

It has inadvertently made me feel optimistic about one thing. He's probably right in saying that Norwich, Watford & Brentford are better footballing sides than Sheffield United, WBA & Fulham. However, we took only four points from a possible eighteen against last year's relegated three. As Roy Hodgson and Sean Dyche also both spotted, we have proven to be pretty incapable of beating any team capable of coming to the Amex and defending deep. The previous season, against three relegated teams who tried to play more progressive football, Bournemouth, Watford & Norwich, we took thirteen from a possible eighteen points. The fact that the three promoted sides are better, could counter intuitively, be a plus for us.

"Guardian writers’ predicted position: 12th (NB: this is not necessarily Michael Butler’s prediction but the average of our writers’ tips)"

Just as well tha Guardian has some more clued up writers than Michael Butler then.

Some times, there are reports of the up front fee, other times there are reports of the total fee. I suspect that if Ali plays 50 games, plays for Iran 10 times and scores 10 goals (or similar add-on bonuses) we’ll get around £4m. I also suspect that if he is transferred, we’d get a huge percentage (think Zaha leaving Palace).

If the average prediction was 12th, that could mean that for each writer who predicted we would finish 16th, another predicted 8th place!

Or everybody else predicted 11th except for this fella.

6 - WE FUDGING WELL DIDN'T - Jesus, Mary and Joseph why is it so f**king hard for posters to understand last season we didn't beat any of the relegated sides.

But we still got 41 points, which as stated almost always keeps a team up. So the point in the article, that we may be at risk if the promoted teams are better than the relegated teams, is completely irrelevant. It would only make any sense if we'd relied on points won from those games to reach safety.

I used some AI writing tool (https://app.inferkit.com/demo) to predict the 2021/22 season. This is the result:

In the 2021/22 season, Brighton & Hove Albion will play 27 away league matches and 16 home league matches at the Amex Stadium.

The stadium, with an average attendance of more than 30,000, is currently the second largest in the top four divisions of English football.

In the 2019/20 season, when the stadium will also be expanded, the stadium will be able to hold 34,000, approximately 13,000 more than the current record of 30,256.

On 16 November 2017, Brighton & Hove Albion played a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification group match against Wales.

As accurate as anything, I guess..

If we finish 12th I’d be very pleased. Progress at this level is difficult and 12th would represent our highest ever finish. Let’s not get carried away with expectations. If we finished 15th (bottom 6) it would hardly be a disaster as every season in the Premier League allows us to build on the strength of the squad and infrastructure.

I'm expecting top four

But will settle for 10th-12th

I think points rather than placement in the league is more interesting in order to determine progress results wise. 50 points would have meant 12th place last season while a few years ago it would have resulted in 8th place. While the latter would have been nicer, the performance results wise would have been the same. You can decide how many points you take but you cant decide how other teams do against other teams.

50 pts is a good target I think.

Eh? The point is that if the promoted teams are better than the relegated ones, they will pick up more points overall, in which case, they could overtake us, and push us into the bottom 3 this season unless we also score more goals - and if we don't sign a decent striker in the next 2 months, I don't know from where, or who, the goals are going to come from - at least not in sufficient numbers, unless our 'strikers' have significantly improved over the summer.

Surprising as it may seem to some, our strikers did actually score enough to keep us up last season - and the 41 points, even if this seasons promoted teams are stronger than last season's, would still be enough to keep us up 90 something percent of the time (without looking it up, I think it's only happened once that a team's got 41 points and been relegated - happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, but still a very rare occurrence). So, if we score the same number of goals, and get the same number of points, regardless of how much closer the bottom three might be, we're still pretty much guaranteed survival.

Just for the record, yes, I would like a new striker - but only if he's better than what we've got.

No idea if this is the right thread (who really cares) but , as it stands I predict this season will be remarkably similar to the last one .. which (apart from staying up) is a tad depressing.

Mr Bloom said that won't happen.

That's good enough for me.
