You won't change PTV.

Way back, for clubs that didn't have a website, or struggled with what they had, it might have seemed attractive, as it also comes with an income stream derived from PTV's advertising income.

Might have been better than nothing but has never been near as good as it could be.

For this season has been updated, a sort of SP2, looks a bit different, but the rest of the world has been moving on as well, so PTV still lags. Indeed some changes have improved worse. For example the Club forum has all but been destroyed.

The Club is not obliged to take the package, and a number of clubs, small and big, have gone their own way.

Meanwhile, the commentary is carried by the BBC Local Radio (public) service, with some sort of contract with (private) PTV, which mostly results in commentaries not being available through the internet direct from BBC.

Presumably, if PTV are not complying with their part of the contract, to supply the commentary to their (paying) subscribers, then the BBC could be at liberty to make it publicly available? Just a thought!

Since some people have the commentary running and others do not, this is unlikely to be a problem at the club's end. It's got to be a question of the set up.

I know when I'm playing 'commentary' and all I get is dead air, if I right click on the file in Media Player and select properties, it tells me the file is missing usage rights. I've looked at the 'help' section on SW and done everything it suggests but it makes no difference.
Sounds like we're maybe going down different routes here. You're choosing to go to 'Audio commentary' in SW. I always choose 'Match Console', which gives all that extra info, on other games, team lineups, match stats and so on. Windows Media Player is not then [ visibly ] involved, nor is the Media Rights download delay. Well, not on my setup anyway.

and that has never worked for me, when the Audo Commentary way usually does...strange

Fact is no one knows how the site works because it is a complete shambles. I hate the site, and I have no interest going on there apart from getting the comm. It is a template piece of crap.

Why cant the club get their own bloody website back? How much does this club make out of it?

I would rather hand the £20+ a year directly to the club to ensure we get a proper club website and a link to the comm every week, that works.

The reason that so many people have problems with the comm is because of that shity licence as well.

Why they cant just have a sodding button that says CLICK HERE TO LISTEN LIVE which opens media player, real player or whatever media player you like is beyond me.

Agree 100% - spot on.

So, precisely why do fans have to click through around seven layers of appallingly designed crap to go hunting for a barely visible 'Match Live / Commentary' button? Think I know the answer to that. Because PTV imagine that doing that will force you to look at all their advertising en route. Fat chance.

PTV are so out of touch with the basics of good, ergonomic, user-centred web design that you wonder quite how their client (Football League) lets them get away with it. And how around 60 clubs, who should have known better, fell for it.

I was trying both. When one way doesn't work it is pretty obvious to try the other way.
