PRESS RELEASE
Begins:-
Representatives of Seagulls Ska and Skint Records will be
presenting a cheque for the sum of £6,250.00 to Brighton
Hove Albion’s ‘Alive & Kicking Fund’ during half time at the
match between Brighton & Hove Albion & Sunderland on
Saturday 19th February at Brighton’s Withdean Stadium.
The cheque represents the proceeds to date on the Seagull
Ska charity single, “Tom Hark (We Want Falmer)” which
reached number 17 in the national music singles chart and has
already sold over 5,500 copies.
The song was released by Seagulls fans to highlight the club’s
ongoing fight for a new community stadium at Falmer which is
currently the subject of another public inquiry.
Skint Records provided advice and logistical support to the
fans, utilising their manufacturing and distribution network to
get the CDs into the shops.
Quotes:-
Attila the Stockbroker (Seagulls Ska)
“we had the idea of reclaiming the Piranhas’ national football
ska hit ‘Tom Hark’ for Brighton with new lyrics in support of our
stadium , with the dual aim of raising money for the Albion’s
Alive & Kicking Fund and trying to take the Falmer For All
Campaign into the Top 20 in the month before the Public
Enquiry restarts!
This record is dedicated to all the fans who have battled so long, so hard and with such creativity and imagination to keep our club alive: to the Piranhas, especially Bob Grover, who inspired it and who has given us his blessing, to Dick Knight and the Albion board, who pulled us back from the brink: and of course to the Albion players, whose dedication, commitment and self-belief against unbelievable odds have given a club with no ground and no money three promotions in four years. And to Skint for backing us. Thanks.”
Andrew Mckirdy (Marketing Manager Skint Records)
“We were very pleased to be able to help the fans storm the
pop charts, raise valuable money for the club’s appeal, and
again highlight the need for a community stadium”
