1997 Club
Just to let you know:
We were 45 in last week's chart with sales of 923 copies, which were entirely shop - based since Amazon and HMV Online had sold out: given that it's really only available in the south east that's pretty good. Sales at the moment are around 4,400 of the initial 5,000 pressing. Skint have pressed another 1,500 (500 more than first planned) making 6,500 in total and lots of those are already taken by pre-orders.
It's just bloody stupid that the moment HMV ran out they decided to tell everyone it had been deleted and put 'unavailable' next to it on their site! I've had at least 20 emails from people complaining about that, and have really had a go at HMV head office about it, since people have been trying to order it in person and online and been told they can't. Still, at least HMV got the important bit right, and it should be back available again soon, since the distributors took delivery of the stock today. Repressing and re ordering is always a problem. What I really cannot understand, however, is why orders made 2 weeks ago weren't sent out before they sold out.
2 gigs:
Seagulls Ska, Too Many Crooks, Barnstormer and the Fish Brothers will be playing at the Offside Bar, 271 - 273 City Road London EC1V 4NJ on Friday 4th
February at 8pm. £5 on the door, nearest tube Angel.
And there will be an Alive & Kicking benefit at the Concorde 2 on Thursday 17 February featuring the first two above named plus Ska Gal and the Hands of Ra and, hopefully, the Brighton Beach Boys and Peter and the Test Tube Babies -
but they haven't got back to me yet.
When there are more copies available I think we will send copies to selected clubs' PA announcers: given the amount of publicity the record has had, some should play it. Cardiff and Charlton already have....
