Brighton chairman Dick Knight has confirmed the club failed in a bid to lure Sheffield United forward Neil Shipperley to the south coast.
The Seagulls, who have been attempting to land a striker since the season began, agreed a deal with Blades boss Neil Warnock but Shipperley declined the chance to head south.
"Neil Warnock was happy for Shipperley to go but he wanted to stay at Sheffield United and now he's back in the team," said Knight.
"That is the type of striker we wanted to get. You need quality strikers like that in this division."
