Seagulls decide against appeal
Tue 27 Feb, 02:30 PM

Brighton have decided not to appeal against Tommy Fraser's red card during Saturday's 2-0 home defeat by Bristol City. The young midfielder was dismissed by Premiership referee Mike Riley after appearing to stamp on City goalkeeper Adriano Basso, and although manager Dean Wilkins branded the decision "harsh", the club are not taking the issue any further.

Fraser will now be suspended for Saturday's match at Crewe, the trip to Blackpool on March 10 and Scunthorpe's visit to the Withdean a week later.

No point in appealing when there is hardly any chance to get it overturned, and also if we did appeal they could extend it for saying it was intential etc etc.

Doesn't it COST though?

Exactly. Dick Knight has probably told Wilkins and Fraser that they won't be appealing

Seems a bit gormless seeing as how the Brizzle keeper admitted he didn't think it was a red card :dunce:
He's not a Premiership ref though.

Albion boss Dean Wilkins today urged Tommy Fraser to learn from his red card after ruling out an appeal.

The Seagulls have decided not to challenge Fraser's dismissal by Premiership referee Mike Riley towards the end of Saturday's 2-0 home defeat by Bristol City.

Wilkins studied video footage of the young midfielder treading on the back of City goalkeeper Adriano Basso after he came on as a substitute. His view of the incident was then confirmed by Lewes-based referee Steve Tomlin.

Wilkins said: "We won't be appealing. It was harsh but you can see why it has been given. Steve looked at it without us saying anything and saw it that way straight away.

"Tommy has to learn from it. Part of the problem in many respects is that the younger players are having to learn in a pressurised environment in the first team.

"It was one of those things that happen when you are young and inexperienced."

Fraser is suspended for Saturday's match at Crewe, the trip to Blackpool on March 10 and Scunthorpe's visit on March 17.

Wilkins and his assistant Dean White make the long journey to the Alexandra Stadium tonight to spy on Crewe against leaders Scunthorpe, who are the next visitors to Withdean.

Crewe, immediately above 12th-placed Albion in the table with two more points and two matches in hand, will reach the traditional 50-point safety mark with a fifth successive victory in League One.

If it costs i don't think Dick Knight would be prepared to go into his pockets for anyone or it's just an excuse not to play him.

Or maybe it's just because he deliberately trod on him and therefore had to go. As the video shows.
