For real?

For a guy who is about my age, and who grew up with The Fall and the Smiths I find that very surprising.

'fraid so. Doesn't mean that I like what they do sometimes. I'm a one-nation Tory in the Macleod/Ken Clarke mould.

Which is interesting given Martin Perry's comments on Lewes Conservatives on the club website:

"Conservatives
Hidden behind the Lib Dems. Have made no public statements on their position, but have sided with the Lib Dems in council votes."

The text in that link appears to have changed regarding the Lewes Tories stance:
"Have sided with the Lib Dems in the past. However, many candidates have begun to adopt a pro-stadium stance. If you are considering voting Conservative to defeat the Lib Dems, make sure you check where your candidate stands on the issue, and then hold them to it if they are elected."

I think that most rational people realise that Ken Clarke was the Tory party's big missed opportunity.

He was the one guy, who just might have made me THINK about whether I could consider voting Tory. Still probably wouldn't have, but I might have at least thought about it!

Chris Patten may just have been the other.

This the same cunning Chris Patten who was made Governer of HK and with Chinese rule looming, decided he was finally going to introduce democratic elections (despite the fact we hadn't bothered for the previous 100 years).

Yeah what an asset to the country he'd have been - he'd have been sure to drum up some UK business with the worlds most populous nation.

So, no thanks.
