All of this. I fished a match on Wednesday that was mostly carp, I was coaching kids/complete beginners yesterday who were really happy to be catching small perch, had a day on the Royalty on Friday catching allsorts in a fabulous location, I’ve got a match on the river this morning that will probably be won with a net of roach and I’m out on a boat after bream, pollock and other stuff on Tuesday (definitely isn’t ’chuck and hope’ at all - the better anglers will almost always catch the most fish, same as coarse fishing). Love all of it.

First time in 40 years that I haven't bought a rod license.

Would really like to get into river fishing....short rod, centre pin and trot with the flow.

Sold my carp stuff, got fed up with sitting behind a bite alarm and catching the occasional 5lb carp on a 3.5lb test curve rod, 18lb line and size 6 hook.
I'll renew my license next year and re-join Hassocks and district A/C

Gave fly fishing a go a few years ago. Paid £10 for a "taster day" and caught a trout on a fly I tied myself. Loved it.

The one thing i'd love to do is to catch a couple Mackerel and put them straight on a hot BBQ and eat them straight from that.

I joined Hassocks for the first time this year...must get out round to trying all their waters

Coarse requires skill and craft; sea requires chuck and hope.

Coarse requires a lot of expense and time and effort for something you can only kiss and put back. Sea fishing = Dinner .

You don’t need to spend much if you don’t want to (sea anglers are known to splash tons of cash too anyway) and for many of us it’s as much about being out in the countryside (often blissfully with no phone signal). Catching fish is a bonus sometimes

Definitely a minority sport compared with coarse and sea. Can be elitist; doesn’t have to be though - the chap I go chalk stream dry fly fishing with is a brickie.

I was with them when a teenager - a long time ago and before other interests took over. One such interest was the proximity of The Royal Oak just up the road from their water at Wineham. The Oak won and remains one of the best country pubs I have ever been to.

The fishing there is still good……..and so is the pub
