We did one dive in Maldives - at about 16m along the reef wall. Pretty strong current so we just drifted along and went to go round the other side of the reef.
The bloody current changed didn't it? So we just drifted back where we'd come from.

By this time, the boat had moved to the other side. Had to wait for it to come back.

Likewise,Maldives being a small island I had similar experience in Saba. Wall dive current changes at the whim. Bloody annoying really.

Only done the Red Sea, & a few in Lanzarote too. Been far too chicken so far to dive off the UK, but that said if someone wants to show me the wonders of the British coastline, I'm open to offers

You don't need a suit to dive here, just slip on the condoms as they float past.

Oddly enough the Channel Islands and Jersey are quite good. Visibility was not great but still.

Ooo..yes, me too..

Learnt NAUI in Protarus, Cyprus, completed OW1 and OW2 for which you have to do cave dives, night dives, and deep dives (35m i think) but nowhere else in the world have i found NAUI so have since swapped over to PADI which is equivalent of advanced.

Been:
Eilat, on/in the Red Sea (for complete flora and fauna overload, not bettered yet)
Koh Tao, Thailand (high expectations, bit disapointing..)
Zanzibar (very good, sharks etc)
Minorca (cave's etc, ok)

Always wanted to do that ship off Cyprus that was scuppered on her maiden voyage, loaded with cars like Maserati's, helicoptors etc - think the insurer's never paid out so most (now some..) of cargo still on board.

That did sound a bit strange. I just couldn't get hold of the rhythm and panicked a little bit. I'm not a water baby anyway and have a mild dislike of deep water since an incident when I was a wee nipper.

Oddly, the first part of my post is missing. I'm hard of hearing and my ears do funny things at different altitudes. It was rather uncomfortable!

From memory, yes.

However, this was not some sort of well organised tour. My friend and I got chatting to a chap in a bar one evening and he mentioned that his brother was a diving expert. So we set about diving the next day and it became clear that they had equipment for other reasons, as opposed to being diving instructors. Maybe illegal fisherman or what-have-you.

I'm not sure if there was a leak, but there didn't appear to be much oxygen coming through. An experience nonetheless!

Sorry you had what sounds like a dodgy experience BoF. I knew you had a hearing disability and you probably had difficulty equalizing at depth. Shame that.

Always fancied doing a liveaboard but it's the not knowing anyone else that puts me off. None of my friends (that I'd go away with) dive so a liveaboard's a bit wasted on them.

Which might explain why I had to surface quickly before I got to the wreck.

Yes exact same place matey..!

We were the only brits for 5 days (all Italians, saffers and Russians/Croats) and then incredibly some lonesome peniless palace supporting twerp turned up..and wanted to be our english friend..!
He eventually got the message..

Stayed at Emerson and Green Hotel in Stone Town beforehand - fantastic place all round.

I was in the same thinking Edna,until i tried it. What if I'm aboard a boatload of wankers? As soon as we hit the open seas all that melted away.The boat was bloody huge and the cabins were most comfy. The crew and the guests respect everyone's privacy. The best part was I really got along with everyone as everyone aboard is after the same thing,dive,dive,dive. After seven days at sea I didn't envy those who opted to stay at an all inclusive resort with the binge drinkers and over weight German tourist. Naw, this was bliss.

I done my OW course in Turkey and i have only dived there not good. My brother is a RD.

Love to dive in Thailand and Mozambique.
