I wonder how good MMs scouting network is as every time we read of a player coming to us it is on DK recommendation or a friend of his e.g McShane, Reid, Ilwelumo Turienzo came via friend of Liam Brady (friend of DK).

My experience, if you can call it that, of scouting for managers went from Alan Mullery through to Mickey Adams and finished with SC as he had his own network that he used. All the previous managers had a Chief Scout but I have heard nothing of MM and his scouts.

Strangely when I was a cub, and then a scout, I never once said dib dib dib. Or even dob dob dob. I can't help but feel that I was cheated out of a scouting experience.:(

Used to say it as a cub.

Seemed strange hearing it again in court after all these years.

What about Carole, CKR, Frutos, Henderson, Blayney ??

Wow - you've heard nothing... why should you ?? Isn't it a good feature of scouts in a competetive market that thay can operate without a lot of public attention ??

Way out west
Never said dib dib dob or anything like that in the cubs/scouts and I eventually left because I was crap at knots, perhaps I should have paid more attention.

We have about 6 members of full time coaching staff!

They must be able to cover games between them.

*** pedant alert ***

It's not dib dib dib anyway, it's dyb dyb dyb. Besides which, the cubs themselves wouldn't have said dyb dyb dyb, Akela would have done, to which the cubs reply would be dob dob dob.

Dean White is the Chief Scout as well as Reserve team coach.

Thank you, you have answered my question it is obvious that he must have some contacts especially in France.

Everybody had heard of George Aitken and Ken Craggs but of very few since then.

In the ironic posts about cubs etc, this seems to have got lost.

I am really interested in this (as a newbie) - you must be really important to have scouted for the Albion. Did you see anybody good? did we sign any of them? I am sure others on here would be interested to know. If for example, you discovered Steve Penney, that would be a real claim to fame.

..... anyway back to the Cubs. Yes, Akela would say dyb dyb dyb. It stood for 'Do Your Best'. The cubs would reply "We'll dob dob dob" meaning "We'll Do Our Best".

It all went by the board when the Advance Party report came out in 1967. That incidentally was when the names were changed to Scouts and Cub Scouts as opposed to Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs.

High up on the South Downs.
Isn't most scouting at non-Prem clubs done informally now?
eg Liam Brady recommends....................Valur Gislasson ?*!!**?!
MM seems to have more contacts than most of our managers. Always thought that poor old Gritty had very few.

It started off with knowing Alan Mullery and I was talking about a game that I saw as IO spent my time when working away going to football matches because it was cheaper than drinking in a pub.

A night porter at the hotel that I was staying at in Blackburn (The Moat House) took me to a game to watch Burnley Res vs Man Utd Res and Burnley had a young 15 year old winger playing who tore Shay Brennan and Tonny Dunne to pieces. I told Alan of him who inturn had other poeple look at him but Mike Bamber said that he was too small and would never make it and wouldnt let Alan persue it. His name Trevor Stevens who went on to play for Everton Rangers England amongst many other clubs.

Barry Lloyd asked me to go to a cup replay at The Abbey Stadium
Cambridge between Grantham & Corby. One of them, if my memory serves me right, it was Grantham had a full back playing wearing no 11. Gary Crosby Barry tried to sign him but was just too late he was told Brian Clough had signed him minutes earlier.

Any body can be a scout it is just a matter of the manager respecting your views and opinions so as you can understand a lot of what is said on here about me I just laugh off.
