I'd imagine the argument with international managers is that they've had experience dealing with 'big-name' players, so therefore can handle the Premiership primadonnas (sp.)
As you say though, Sanchez was shit at Wycombe, his previous experience of day-to-day management. At least with Hughes you could claim that you didn't know how it was going to turn out, as he'd never had a club position before...
