This hatred of people living on the north part of this little island is a bit silly. I consider my self British, and the scots voted for this last time as well.
Checked my family tree after England got knocked out the Rugby world cup and I can still surpot Scotland Ireland and maybe Australia and could have been a kiwi but my mother family didn't settle in the Thirties and came back to England by Boat.

Was queuing up for the bogs outside Hampden Park(and not just wizzing where i was standing) and I glimpsed a drunk jock, fully kilted and feathered up making a sort of direct line straight for me,it took an eternity as he stumbled, fell and weaved his way but he eventually arrived straight in my face.(oh bugger ….why me)

"is this the queue for the queue" he inquired politely
"umm yes" says i
"cheers wee man"

and that was that……..sums them up really.

I would be offended if someone referred to me as ''wee man'' in or around a public toilet

This historical throwback called "Scotland" is irrelevant to most of us in London. All we point out is that this place they call "Scotland" has a population of 5.5 Million and we have a disclosed population of around 9 -11 Million in London (depending on what you call London), but in reality, you can add a million or so to that as well. Despite this, and only because of events hundred's of years ago, they have more MP's than us. Speak to a Scotsman however and you would think its the other way around. When does London get a voting mandate that matches our population? Incidentally, Sussex could claim independence if you go by ancient Kingdom's, as it was the land of the South Saxon's. Truly absurd is the nationalist chip on the shoulder that is the SNP if you look at it in those terms. I'm still not convinced that many SNP MP's want independence as the whining they undertook when it was suggested that they stay north of the border was comical. They just couldn't wait to get the fast train to London, and there is a reason for that, London is international city with people from all over the world. Glasgow is a small parochial town by comparison.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, Thatcher's destruction of mainly English-based Working class proud industries was entirely fuelled by her pissing of Scotland's oil revenue up the wall on dole payments. Learn your history sonny. For the first part of the Thatcher junta, Aberdeen OWNED the UK's economy. Then she let the Essex barow boys loose on the City of London and furked us over forever.

What is it in my post that is incorrect? Does Scotland have a smaller population than London but more MP's than London? - yes. As for your post, well I am neutral on Thatcher, I just observe that some people "blame" Thatcher for the change of the UK's economy and they are wrong. Some people give her the "credit" and they are wrong. Thatcher was the Prime Minister in post who dealt with the legacy of an economy still geared towards a pre war Empire that Britain no longer had. The fall out started before Thatcher, just see the Tony Benn and Dennis Healey spats in the Labour party, as those spats with Healey going to the IMF stem from the same problem. Thatcher could never had stopped the change in the economy and nor could Michael Foot or Tony Benn, despite what they said. Healy understood that and he was hardly a Thatcherite. As for your sneer at the working class moving into the City, well that was one of Thatcher's greatest socialist achievement, changing the City from being a bastion of those born into money, now that she helped to change deliberately and I for one am very grateful that she did.

Actually Londinium as it originally was geographically doesn't have that a large a population anymore. Greater London as it became is a collection of small towns and villages which was knitted together by a transport network. So if you mean Greater London then yes it is larger in population. Glasgow per population is still the 3rd largest in the UK

Not that it is particularly relevant but Scotland has 59 MPs, London 73. While London has a larger population, one could argue that those in Scotland may be less represented, (devolution notwithstanding) as they are far more geographically dispersed.

In terms of your less substantive argument on independence, using Sussex as an example is the 'truly absurd' notion - Being part of the south east of England, politically and culturally very much at the core of England and by extension the UK, being less than an hour from London and benefiting hugely from the financial clout that brings is quite different from life in Inverness or Stirling, I suspect. Even Yorkshire would be a better example.

For what its worth, I hope they don't achieve independence (for various reasons), but it may be worth your while reading a bit and understanding their argument rather than just spouting ill researched drivel.

I should have qualified it. Scotland has more MP's per head than us Londoners. You find that acceptable and so please explain to me why someone living in Scotland should be more represented than someone living in London? Imagine the screaming if it was the other way around. You can recognise ancient Kingdom's although your Yorshire statement is weird - just because true Sussex people have been joined by others since the war, it doesnt mean true Sussex isn't as much a "culture" and Sussex a place as Yorkshire. However I will recognise people and look to see equality of representation. London and the South East need more MP's and Scotland, if they insist on staying, must have less.
