Scott Parker - England Captain (merged)

Not much wrong with that. He's respectable, normally exemplary, got intent and consistency, and is a pretty reliable player.
I hear he wasn't so great v Arsenal this week, but then he'll have something to prove and come back from.

Gerrard isn't as intelligent as a footballer in my opinion.

I'm not a Parker fan, but I can understand the logic and think it is a sensible appointment. Surely he is only captain for tonight though - the new manager will have his own ideas about selection and captaincy. However, it does seem increasingly likely that Stuart Pearce will lead us at the Euros, with a new manager coming in to take charge of the Olympic team.

At last. A Captain who is actually fit for the job. He was the only choice really.

Think you might be right

I'd bet on Beckham getting that job

I still don't get why the media hype up the role of England Captain. It's not like cricket or rugby where the captain makes major decisions on the pitch.

Give it to the guy with the most caps.......oh hang on. That's Ashley Cole.

You mean the guy who showed a lack of discipline and flagrant disregard for the well-being of his fellow professionals, fouling repeatedly on sunday until the ref had no choice but to send him off?*

*yes, my tongue is in my cheek.

Should be Joe Hart for the long term. Guaranteed starter for 8-9 years (unlike Parker). World Class player and first name on team sheet. Never in the tabloids. Easy, easy choice.

Happier with Parker than say, Gerrard or Barry though.
