Scots don't get the feel good factor after the Olympics

Interesting to hear the phone in on 5Live this morning. Several Scots talking down the feel good factor, claiming it was an 'English' Olympics. Many more Scots shouting them down saying how London 2012 has strengthened their feeling for the 'Union'.

OK, the games were largely based in London and a only handful of footie matches were held in Wales and Scotland, but were hardly 'English'. Stand up Andy Murray, Chris Hoy etc.

One Scot pointed out 'they' would have come something like 10th in the Olympic medal table and suggested that Scotland should enter its own Olympics team in 2016! Obviously suits the nationalist agenda North of the border. Was good to hear a Scots caller then point out that even Murray and Hoy might struggle given that their training facilities and coaches are based in England....

Will be interesting to see how the Commonwealth Games go in Glasgow 2014. Could be a big political football.

I'm that's just a minority of Scots - bit of a generalisation based on the few people who called up Radio 5 Live. People who really enjoyed the Olympic and support it are probably less impassioned to call up in comparison to those who feel passionately that it was an English Olympics, so doubt it was a very fair representation of most Scots opinion.

Phone ins are not a fair representation of reality in my mind. Most Scottish people are in favour of the union, they'd be crazy not to be.

I suppose it's different if you're on the less successful side of the line. Your country's success (eg Scotland's) gets overshadowed somewhat by your more successful neighbour AGAIN.
When competing together, no one gets overshadowed, we're competing as a team. Some of them just need to grow up.
Would Hoy have 2 gold medals if England and Scotland had competed separately? Probably not.
100% not. He wouldn't have ever been training in our team. Murray would have got his gold though.
Out of interest do you 'only' support English athletes at the Commonwealth Games, or do you like to see Team GB athletes doing well in their own national colours?
I'd only really support England, although over the years I've normally wanted a local nation like Scotland or Wales to win in events against other countries.
