Quite used to them as we all are, but on Friday the criminals took it to another level

Had a call from "not BT" regarding with how my IP address "had gone public". When I questioned their "morals", they replied hoping I "die a horrible death".

Water off a ducks back for me, but Christ how does this affect the elderly ?

I think I've posted on here before how I used to keep them going as a tactic. Waste their time and they don't ring back.

However last time I tried that I received a few minutes later claiming to to be from the "UK Police Agency" claiming I'd been reported for a crime.

Blimey, they've got nasty.

Just pretend you've got tourettes, that'll sort them, won't get a word in at all!!

On a serious side, I never answer any calls, that are not on our contact list.

Had that BT call a few months ago, the last of a series of them. Once I was certain it was crooks, I launched into a monologue of abuse, not giving the wnkr a second to respond. I genuinely never do stuff like that, it was theraputic in a way.

Give them a false account number etc when they ask for the three digits on back of card, say 8 9 10 or 12 14 17. You'll get some choice words fired back at you but my god you'll feel better for it.

I hung up on a scammer the other day and he phoned me back and told me to go to hell - so I told him to eff himself.

I was interviewed on the radio about it a few years ago, my usual tactic is to keep them talking which tends to work - they don't like time wasters.

This however was something quite different. I changed my opinion of thinking that the callers were usually just caught up in a scam but after Friday I've realised they are simply criminals with all the rest.

Absolutely this. If it's genuine, they will leave a message. I also Google the number in case they call again, but they seem to make up new numbers every time now.

We got a call on Friday, My wife answered. "Guy wants to talk about our computer problems?

Me: "Oh yes, this isn't the usual 300 accidents I have had in the last 2 weeks that weren't my fault, I will take this one"

Indian guy. Very poor English. Started shouting "What do you see on your screen?"

After a while, I got bored so I said "Look pal, I am an IT professional, I am a Unix Systems administrator, which Operating System are you concerned with?"

He replied "I have never heard of a Unix, what is an operating system? and promptly put the phone down on me

Which was a shame, I was only warming up.

I used to answer these calls and say random things such as

The wall in my garden is not 6 foot tall.

I have never been to Leeds and I’m never going back.

I don’t have a phone.

This is not the 3rd phone call I have had today.

You get some funny reactions . One guy told me he hopes my cock drops off. Now I just don’t answer any number thts not in my contacts. The novelty of being sworn at by some dirty criminal wears off quickly.

I had one of those Microsoft scam calls the other day and when they asked what was on the screen I replied two dwarves having sexual intercourse. I was told I was a very bad man and then they hung up. How rude!

I’ve been stitched up good and proper by a scammer over the last few days. I can usually smell a scam email from a mile away but on Wednesday I received an email from TV Licensing to say that they had tried to take a monthly instalment from my bank and it had failed. It all looked so genuine, it even stated the amount of my instalment and I didn’t even hesitate to fill in the form with my bank details, fraud didn’t even enter my mind. Anyway, fast forward two days and I get a phone call from Nat West to say that they had reason to believe that an unauthorised payment had been made from my account, £600 in Argos which they immediately cancelled when I told him that I hadn’t made the transaction. He went on to block my debit card, told me I would receive a new card within 3-6 working days, I thanked him for the service and hung up. I then decided to check my online banking app and noticed that a £50 ATM transaction was showing on my statement but I hadn’t drawn any money that day. I decided to pay a visit to my bank the following day to sort the mess out and they escorted me into a private office and called the fraud department and handed me the phone and I was told that the call I received the previous day supposedly from Nat West was all part of the scam and as soon as I had quoted a six digit security number that they had requested from me, the scammer had all my details and drew £50 out of my account! But the real kick in the bollocks came when I was told that Nat West were unable to refund the £50 and this has left me penniless until next pay day. I receive scam emails every week and I thought I was red hot at spotting them, but this one had me well and truly fooled.

Bad luck, we can all be caught off guard and it's never anyone's fault but the criminal's. Do yo bank online? First thing I do if I receive any kind of notice from my bank is look online at my account summary to see if there is anything unusual. I also receive any notice like that in the post and my bank knows I won't act on anything like that until I have it in written form.
You just cannot be too careful. I would also press the bank for that £50, I bet if you went in again and spoke to the branch manager they would do a goodwill payment.

That is exactly what I do never answer a call to an unknown caller let it go to voice mail scam callers never leave a message and then block the number

Got a call a couple of months ago. "My name is George Edwards and I'm calling from BT". Told him "Your name is not George Edwards and to stop lying". Obviously he got deeply offended by that, because when I put the phone down he called back again, this time with a different name. I said "See your lying, now please **** off and leave me alone". He must of called about twenty times after that, each time using a different name. In the end I had to the plug out and left it an hour, and finally the calls the stopped.

Feel sorry for old people, they can easily be duped by these people. Nothing we can do about it either, they now register UK numbers, and when you call that number back it goes dead.

Terminate these calls, properly putting the landline receiver down.

If concerned that it is legitimate, look up the true phone number of the real organisation, and give them a call.

Never react to emails from banks or similar.

As someone said above, I feel for the elderly, who might not remember good advice in the moment.
