I had an apprentice when still in the UK and there was an occasion when he wanted to leave early to got to some event, I said, 'alright', then he proceeded to ask if he could come in a bit later the next day.
To which I replied,'do you want jam on it'.
I got a really confused look back and had to spend the next ten minutes explaining what it meant.

Some very unfortunate folk were issued 2" ones, but only in 1989 apparently. 12" ones were also mooted as an option, but were considered too big to handle easily.
