The rugby boards comments are very disrespectful to Athelstan and all the Saxons who fought at brunanburh.
There would not be an England without the battle and bloody sacrifice made by Saxons on that day.

"FFS. So I've put this dress on for nothing."

The dull part of the south coast
This one is fine since it is gender neutral.

The sexual connotations in rugby continue when you have a hooker, who has two props and a couple of locks. In addition you have a loose maul, someone losing their binding and someone who puts in a big tackle taking man and ball.

I’m exhausted just thinking about it, especially as it’s forty minutes each way.

I have to be honest, I am enraged by this. It isn't the first team is it, so why call it "England A"? Should be "England B". There, I feel better for getting that off my chest.

I wonder if the name 'Roses' was available whether the RFU would have had the balls to go for it.

South Africa are The Proteas and Japan are The Cherry Blossoms - both named after flowers.

'Saxons' always was an odd name. Be interesting to see it's replacement.

I know that's not what some want to hear.

The England women's team are the Red Roses.

For all the joking about this, it's actually a serious issue in rugby. Clubs in England are very concerned that they're seen as a white, middle class sport and are looking to make inroads outside the private schools. This has been a concern for some time, so it beggars belief that the RFU chose the name 'Saxons' in the first place.

I suppose just because the Saxons were quite hard and violent.

It used to be called England 'B', Emerging England, England XV. It took the RFU 6 years from 2000 in deciding the reserve side needed a separate, distinct identity before overwhelmingly going for Saxons over England Aces and England Bloods in 2006.

It begs the question if they needed an identity then why do they not need one now? I reckon they didn't have the imagination to try and come up with anything better.

If you are looking for an indigenous creature that bridges the white and black colour divide then maybe the England Grey Squirrels is a goer?

On the Border
To ensure the team fully represents the country, the team will now be known as

England Multicultural XV Although We Fully recognise that most people prefer football and a lot of others don't like sport at all, but if we do jolly well and reach a world cup final some more of you may like to support us, but most probably won't but that's alright you are free to do what you like and if you want us to change our name please feel free to start one of those on line petitions and we could always change our name several times during a game so no one feels they've been excluded or insulted.

We certainly can't use England A as that's elitist
