Why is it only foreigners buying PL clubs. Why do wealthy Brits not consider it a good investment.

Written by a Sunderland fan, but still spot on.

It is absolutely spot on, and Wilson has never come across as having a tribal attitude to the rivalry between the two sides. Always one of the more interesting football writers. I'm pleased that the Guardian have taken a strong stance on the takeover and not bought into the happy-clappy don't the long suffering Newcastle fans deserve this deliverance nonsense that is prevalent elsewhere .

There is 2 sides of this to me, whilst the investment is certainly up for discussion - I am surprised the Geordies are acting so classless as to waving around saudi flags, putting middle eastern head dress on etc. How many of them were on Facebook sharing stores if councils forcing people to take down St Georges crosses, St Georges day not being celebrated in the right way or how Luton is going to become under Sharia law a few years ago and now doing this?

Cognitive dissonance is a heck of a thing.

EDIT: Although to be fair it probably isn't cognitive dissonance because I think you need to be aware of your conflicting thoughts / actions to experience it. So, I'll just go with: they're f**king morons.

Alan Shearer was commenting that he looked forward to investment in the training ground. Let’s see how much he likes it when it turns out the training ground is going to be moved to Hertfordshire.

The Newcastle Franchise! Poor Geordies. So cruelly treated over so many years.

It'll be interesting to see.

I think someone needs to advise SB, he's only warming the seat until the Saudis get a real coach :lolol:

I wonder how many of them will wear this stuff when they come down to our place.

Woodgate makes some good points about players but then suggests that every manager will want the job, I think not, it’s going to take time and a few sackings of managers imo.

Yep. Man City went through several (even ones picking up trophies) before they finally got Pep. PSG have arguably underperformed until relatively recently.

It's wonderful to see the love for the new owners on show at St James Park today. Any gays in the crowd? Did any women drive to the match without a male escort? Has anyone been strangled and dismembered since the takeover?

Lots of stuff being said about the takeover, but in purely footballing terms the city deserves it. When you look at city, Chelsea, PSG, RB Leipzig et al the club does have a genuine football base that has never really fulfilled its potential.
I just hope for the club and football in general it doesn’t go pear shaped too quickly.

Not kidding, R5 interviewed reps from the Newcastle United Gay & Lesbian Supporters Association when the Saudis took-over. They were emphatically behind the acquisition … you may’ve heard these same reasons given over the last fortnight, on Geordie repeat.

1. They’ve been starved by owners for decades of the success they deserve. The 1974 FAC Final was quoted as a sliding doors moment - Liverpool won and then won the lot for decades to come, Newcastle lost and awful owners deprived the fanbase.
2. Hypocrisy from the football world. Barely ever a mention of the owners of PSG, Chelsea and Citeh.
3. They look forward to educating the owners, which they hope will alter matters in Saudi Arabia.
