Interesting interview and rather depressing. Although there is a need to cooperate with unsavoury countries be it for security or economic reasons the relationship with Saudi Arabia has always seemed far to close. I get the feeling a lot of Saudi money has been very carefully used to make us dependant on having a good relationship with them. eg Complain about human rights and that 100million arms sale will go to someone else leading to thousands of job losses. The more we disengage from Saudi influence the better, easier said than done of course.

Agree that there has to be some degree of realpolitik involved in international relations, but at some point one has to draw the line. As you say, this seems too close. Cameron's words say one thing, his actions speak for themselves.
Haha wow

Reported on Channel 4 news this evening.
Woman beheaded while police watch in Saudi Arabia.
In this graphic video taken in Saudi Arabia near the city of Mecca, a woman is punished for having committed what her husband alleges is the murder of his 7-year-old daughter.
The convicted woman is led out before a crowd in broad daylight and beheaded in the middle of a lot. It is unknown whether or not she was afforded due process during her defense, but the Saudi justice system is typically discriminatory against female defendants.
Warning: The Channel 4 News video stopped before it became graphic, but I don't know if the video in this news link is edited so best not to play it.

Terrible viewing and absolutely despicable. We actually call this country an ally ffs. Saudis make up the largest majority of foreign fighters fighting for ISIL then any other country.
Unbelievable. Why are we even rubbing shoulders with this vile country.
Saudi relationship with UK 'at risk', warns ambassador
An "alarming change" in Britain's attitude towards Saudi Arabia could lead to "serious repercussions", the Saudi ambassador has warned.

Thinly veiled (how appropriate) threats, what a surprise. Hopefully our relations will continue to deteriorate and we can further distance ourselves from this medieval regime.
