Been thinking about buying one for a while and more for Europe than UK.

The place we are going to in France has a code 02290 which I assume is the french version of a post code so would you just put that in the device and hey presto a route comes up ?

Halfords are desperate to sell them at the moment, don't forget to haggle.

I bought an LG N10 in Halfords this time last year with just UK on it and was told that the Europe map would be available for download at the end of January. Tried LG in May told in a months time. Phoned LG in December and they said that their map suppliers had pulled out they dont know when it will be available for download that is if it ever will.

OK so maybe better just printing the routes of Michelin then.

Can anyone advise what you put in a sat nav to get a route in Europe ?

Hi beach hut.

I've got a garmin european version and have had it for about 3 years.
Have used it in spain on numerous occasions and it's both easy to use and accurate.Type the address as you see it and it will take you there.
And the good thing is it still speaks in english.Hope this helps.

My dad, who lives in France, just bought a Garmin with European maps whilst he was over this Christmas. He used it to drive back to his home in the South of France, just typed in the address as you would an address in this country and it took him to his front door with no problems at all.

I also have a older Garmin but mine only has the UK & Ireland maps pre-installed, though I think it's fairly easy to add other countries with the supplied software, but I haven't tried, so look out for a Garmin with European maps on.

Have you tried the dogging website you found the French car park Beachy? I'm sure they supply a map.

House name/number, street/road and post code.

I have a Garmin I use in France and 99% of the time it's spot on, it does have the occasional brainstorm in large cities, especially Paris

I have a Tom Tom 300 which is now old as it was one of the first but still does what it says on the tin, have used it several times abroad but not France, using post codes is just one way of inputing destinations, Just put in the street name and town and you will be fine.

I have a Tom Tom 710 and we've used it in France and Portugal several times. The one problem we had was the first time, 3 summers ago, when it kept trying to take us on a motorway that wasn't there...when we got back and looked it up, it should have opened by then, but was over a year late, so presumably they put it on the map ready.

The kids liked changing the voice to a french accent when we were in France but I found that harder to understand!
