It's an interesting comparison, because I suspect that both religious fanatics and 'The Truth' share the same fundamental reason for their peculiar belief systems - Hope.
Whereas religious fanatics hope for life after death, I suggest that the conspiracy nuts hope that once people realise "what is really going on" they will rise up and revolt for a better world.
Like with any type of delusion, I think both groups just need education (failing that, counselling). The problem with the Truth is that he doesn't seem willing to listen to the facts, due to his paranoid belief that most of it comprises of lies to control us.
He / She must be an impressionable teenager, that is the probable explanation.
