To celebrate the signing of Bruno, I Am taking Mrs McCraque for a week in Spain next month and am looking for some inspiration in terms of places to stay in San Sebastian.

Ideally looking for reasonably priced hotels in and around the beach and old town. However, anything of a decent price is a bastard long walk from the OT and beach!

I'm sure that NSCers have posted on this before...but whenever I run a search on San Seb - I get a shed load of posts about Seb Carole being gash.

Any recommendations on hotels? And how easy is it to get there from Biarritz Airport? Cheers!

We just camped in an athletics stadium in 82, so I am guessing thats not what you are looking for....... its about 150 miles from Biarritz, thats quite a taxi ride. Not much help I know, sorry.

Thread on this a couple of weeks back, sure that has some hotel reccomendations. Consensus seemed to be fly to Bilbao and take the coach direct from the airport, 1hr. I've done it and it's pretty painless.

By the seaside in West Somerset
Parador de la Gomera (?) and Parador Hondarribia (or similar spelling - can't remember) - both nice.
The Gomera was cheaper but the other one was more impressive. But that was a few years ago

San Sebastian has some okay foody places or you can just pop over to Irun and on up to St Jean de Luz or Biarritz an hour's drive away. We often stay at an Ibis in Bayonne for one or two night stopovers and for us, especially if you are going to be exploring and dining out, they are more than adequate and great value for money.

150 miles???? It's about 50km!
didnt I add approx?.... my mistake... lol... seriously I think I was remembering the drive from Santander.

St Jean de Luz is a great little stopover,... great beach and good bars/rest scene, and a few good overnight b&b type places.

John Inverdale did a piece on San Sebastian in Sunday's Telegraph.
He recommended Villa Soro (villasoro.es) but seems a bit pricey at £134 for a double. 10 min walk from the beach.
Try telegraph.co.uk/celebritytravel

Never been there myself by looks a wonderful place

Worthing
And another! I may head there myself in September in another remarkable effort to avoid Milwall away!

Sydney .
Stayed at Hotel Niza ; Photos - NIZA Hotel in San Sebastian
Paid around 130 euros for a double , but that was back in July '09 .
It's bang in the centre of the main beach , La Concha and just a 10 minute leisurely stroll to the Parte Vieja - where you can experience the most sophisticated pub crawl ever !
Beware - San Sebastian hosts lots of festivals throughout the year and hotel rooms fill up fast . Accommodation can be really tight during the International Film Festival .
